Default 1.4tdci not starting when it's really cold

Hi I was wondering if anybody can offer any advise for the below it would be greatly appreciated.

My missis has a 1.4 tdci fiesta 2004. Over the last couple of weeks there has been about 3 or 4 occasions where it's not started. This as only happened when its been really cold. It has started fine later in the day. What it does is turn over about 3 or 4 times then nothing. It will do this quite a few times but won't start.

We called the breakdown co out and as you would expect it fired up first time!! But he asked if it was ever driven with the foot slightly rested on the clutch which it had been and this causes dust and can cause this problem??

Since we was advised about it she said she hasn't done it since but again today it did it.

Would a new started motor be the place to start?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sounds familiar to mondeo problems with dust and crap knackering the starter motor.

If the battery is fine I'd say starter motor.

Have a look on talkford.com as well, loads of very good info on there.

If its REALLY cold, not starting and a diesel engine. I would guess at GLOW plugs!
