Private reg plate transfer question.
Went to my local DVLA branch today to transfer my plate from my Mondeo to my Focus. The question is: will my Mondeo automatically go back to its original number plate or will the DVLA issue a new age related plate? I assumed it would just go back to the original reg plate but my mate said he didn't think it would as that number will have been voided by the DVLA.

Right, latest development. Got authorisation today from the DVLA to put my private plate on to the Focus and the old plates back on the Mondeo, so far so good.
On Tuesday night i took a deposit from a guy for the sale of the Mondeo and told him i would have all of the paperwork back from the DVLA within the next couple of days so that he could pick the car up at the weekend but all that came from the DVLA today was the transfer authorisation letter and two certificates (1 for the old plate and 1 for the private plate) that need to be produced to get new number plates made if necessary. I also got section 10 (New keeper's details) from the original logbooks. Can i give this to the buyer so that he can take the Mondeo and then when i get the new logbooks back from the DVLA fill in his details in the relevant section and return it back to the DVLA so they then send him the next logbook.

Pretty sure you can. Just keep him up to date with what's happened and happening so you don't lose the sale.
I put in to retain a plate a couple of weeks ago. They sent me the number plate authorisation form and the new reg mot last week. I'd be surprised if the new V5 arrives this week as they take a bit longer. From memory the last time I done one it took 3 weeks to get the new V5.

Spoke to the DVLA about this earlier and explained that i was in the middle of selling the car and the lady said that the buyer could use the section 10 "New keepers details" stub to tax the car at the local DVLA only (not a post office) and then when the V5 comes through i could fill in the guys details as normal and he would then get a new V5 in due course. I told the buyer this and he said he is happy to wait a few more days to see if the V5 comes through and he will then take the car as normal so hopefully within a week the car will be gone.
