Default Any oneknow make up of diesel pmps

Hi every one. I have just had to take my deisel injector pump in to have a leak repaired. It was running great before I took it off, but had one mother of a leak. Well shop said they had to take the pump to bits to repair it, and would not just fix the leak. I was not keen on this but what can one do it had to be repaired
When I went to pick pump back up, the chap said that all it had needed other than repairing the leak, was new throtle bush. I had thought this would have been the case for as I have said the combi was running great before I took pump off.
Well I put the pump back on, as I had made a timing mark on the pump houseing body on removal I was told the pump should go streight back onto this mark and be okay as it had not been altered in any way.
Well it was not okay it ran but even by moving the pump through the whole movment it has on is't bolts I could not get her to run smothly.
Now as I never had time to mess around I needed a van on the road. I stopped work on her and put my other combi back on the road.
Well today now have more time, I have put a timing tool on my repaired pump and discovered; That once I get to the point in the timing process where you have to turn the pump to get a set reading on the diel gauge, a reading of 0.92 mm plus or minus 0.01 mm for my 1600cc. I could only turn the pump back far enought on the bolts to get a reading off 0.71 mm. as you can gause this is not good enought.
Dose any one know what they could have done wrong as I do not know the make up of a bosch pumps insides
On my combi it being a 1600cc you only have the crank and idler and then the drive on end of pump. Now as all this was correctly set before taking the pump off, it must all be okay now. I can only assumes it is the pump at fault. Any one any ideals before I take pump off again.
On the 1600cc escort the pump gear must be held in posititon before the pump comes off. This I know and did so you can count out any slip of the timing gear. Cheers, any help greatly appreciated Pete
