everyone will say spend the extra money blah blah blah
but in reality if you buy one off ebay it will more than likely be of the same quality that a garage would fit eg from eurocarparts etc

Genuine every time for me. For something as essential as a cambelt then I think it's worth the extra £60. There is a chance it could be the same belt manufactured in the same factory (like some aftermarket parts) however I would want peace of mind that it is a top notch belt you are fitting.

On such a critical component I would happily spend the extra. It's not just the belt though as the idler pulleys should be done too. IME VAG stuff is very fussy and almost all pattern parts are fucking shite for them.

I've used Gates a few times... For my own I use OE quality, customers have a choice when they come to me but I always advise them to pay a little extra.

Might be the same stuff just different packaging but I'm not going to find out.

Pointless scrimping on quality on that part, saving £50 or whatever now may cost you morin in the long run.

Get a Gates one as they are a OE-equivalent belt and about the same price from a motor factors compared to ebay, plus your backed up buying from a factors as I would not think a seller on ebay would get gates involved if there was a problem.
