Box won't go into 3rd at 'speed', its ok when cruising
It also makes a noise at idle, and it's NOT the release bearing, it's not a standard box so i was looking for someone in the know to advise how the box actually works, all advice appreciated.

Ironically I VERY nearly did go for that box.....
I'm away to call him now, I emailed him all the details so I hope he has read it.
2nd Gear has been extremely helpful (again), definately a man in the know if you're having and transmission woes or indeed needing transmision parts rebuilt.

Ok great news, I just spoke with Romain and he clarified a few things.
Will get the box removed and checked here and see what the issue is, but it doesn't sound like anything too dramatic. The part will either be sent to me or worst case I can send the box back, but I really don't think that's required.
Just to clarify, it's a brilliant box otherwise and extremely smooth (And I've experienced a brand new MT75 box from ford before). The issue appears to be not related to the actual gearkit, it's with another part of the box so I still have confidence in the quality.

He thinks it's a damaged baulk ring (part of the synchro) thats the main issue, I know little about the boxes but the way it has been explained to me it sounds very likely. Obviously everything is speculation until it's in front of you though. Will get it taken apart here and the part replaced.
i had a issue with a baulk ring on a t5, (not the same box i know) but like you said it was fine when chaning slowly and low in revs, but i couldnt change gear quicky or high up the rev range, very annoying if you are trying to give it some!
Which gearkit do you have? As I think there is a straight cut and a semi-straight cut helical gearkit. I still wonder how much noise both these boxes make and if they do it in all gears or only the lower gears.
what syncro is it using?
if it's the standard ford kit then they have brass bits in it to slow the gearbox down to let you engage the syncro teeth and the actual box is just too slow to slow down and it's fairly easy to "beat the box" when you are changing gears
this can also start to manifest itself by being able to slip the box out of gear when you are driving along as the bit that holds it in place gives up the ghost
if this is the case it won't lead to any major issues as it's just wear and tear and the syncro's were only Ł50 from ford
if that makes sense

Yes, the Oppliger kit, but which one? As apparently they have two versions:

Which one do you have, the straight cut or semi-straight cut?

1900 euro kit, but that's just for the parts, not for the build, i can't remember how much it was but it's still very reasonable.
