Thing is the ka engine will go on for ever and won't need any work doing to it. They last for ages with very little oil in aswell

Its hard to know where to start, there are a few

Early 3ltr V6's, serious thirst and not without several problems.
The old 2ltr V4 was a munter.
As above the old 1.3 used in the Ka and Fiesta but it is a very old engine and if looked after they did give good if not efficient or powerful service !

Many years ago I worked with a bloke who had a MK4 Cortina that had the 1.3 Kent engine in it and it didn't exactly set the world on fire in terms of performance ! The engine ended up going bang so he dropped in the 1.1 engine from a MK2 Escort so you can imagine what that was like but what cracked me up was when he sold it the bloke who bought it off him said it would be used for towing his caravan, I hope he didn't have to go up any hills.

I don't think the Zetec engine ever found its way into the Ford Probe mate. The 4cyl wasn't a Zetec whatever it was and certainly the V6 wasn't which was rubbish also.

either the 1.7 v4 german built ones or a 2.5 24v v6 in mk1/2 mondeos that were always blowing head gaskets which i still think was a design fault

1.8 and 2.0 duratecs are pretty bad engines they go through piston rings like there is no tommorow not suprising really when my mig welder uses wire thicker than the rings!! failing that its got to be cvh's in general for me im not at all a fan of them

As said above, the endura cast iron lump should be left on the ocean floor holding boats from moving. Rattling wheezing gutless bits of junk. With all that air injection system attached . Worked on one once and the will to live drained from me.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned the Peugeot 2.3 Diesel knacker. Gutless, overheats every time you start it, head gasket as tough as a cornflake packet, unbelievably heavy and not even economical.

Mines got to be the 2.0l zetec found in the Mk1 and 2 Mondeos. Has 3 of them and they have all gone headgasket wise even though i constanly checked water levels. saying that i had a 05 plate 2l diesel that gave up the ghost through to an injector fault and a mk3 1.8 mondeo that the bottom end went on.
So for me i guess its just mondeos. lol

stupid response, most popular early focus was the 1.6 and ive seen escort and focus 1.6 zetec with over 150k on them. and they dont drink fuel, must have had a bad experience with yours?

I4 is a good strong engine mate barking up wrong tree there, only time they went wrong was when people fitted 2,3 galaxy bottom end thinking it was plug and play

i thought the endura engine was pretty good.as people have said u can run them into the ground, solid as old boots.i guess due to people having issues will most things they will say it was terrible engine.the psa 1400 diesel may not set the world alight but it will regularly return 50ish mpg even on high mileage ones.the 1600 psa engine is used in several companies,ford/volvo/peugeot/citroen and even the diesel minis i believe use it

cant think of a really bad engine i guess early engines v4/v6
