Depends on your ide4a of worst engine, a lot of engines mentioned here have been underpowered, but that doesn't make them bad engines, when they are reliable and easy to maintain, you can argue they are the better engines, My idea of worst engine would be very unreliable, a pain in the arse to work on, give crap fuel ecomomy etc. It just all depends on what you want from an engine.

Only downside to the Duratec HE IMO is that they arent particulary great on fuel for the power of them.

+1 on the sport ka engine. It's just a object to make noise and consume fuel, lots and lots of fuel. It's makes virtually no power and sounds shit in doing so.
If ford had fitted the 1.6 zetec se engine out of the fiesta/focus then other than the rust and bendy wheels it would have been a brilliant car.

nothing wrong with a duratec v6,
they were also fitted in mk3 mondeos aswell as other cars.
arguably they could be one of the most reliable engines used in a mondeo even to this day.

I would agree on Sierra 1.8 cvh, pretty much every one I've come across has been shagged out!
Totally disagree with the wee 1.3 crossflow/endurance though - not fast and tappet noise is a pain but so reliable and easy to maintain! Only goosed one I came across was in a mk4 Fiesta where the young girl had managed to put a fist size hole in the block and it still ran!

I can only think of the 1.5 v4 I had in an old saab which I was borrowing as I had rolled my car , fecking oddball thing with coulum shift ,the engine was not great with little power ,a fiber gear driving a balance shaft system which enjoyed lossing its teeth an a carb smaller than the one on my 125 honda still it was ummm well compact !

No one seems to have mentioned the early zetec se lump in 1.25 form..... Good economy and smooth when they are working, but know sooooooo many that munch the bottom end and then you can't do a crank regrind cos the tolerances are too tight.... Then there is the issue of them dropping valves and the fact they don't have a woodruff key on the bottom end allowing the crank to just spin if the bolt ain't 100 tight..... Oh and the exhaust / cat that's round the back and always fucking snaps a stud when you try unbolting the manifold!! This engine has been designed to a short shelf life and then you have to buy a COMPLETE UNIT when it does give up the ghost.... Damm throwaway society I tell you!!!

Id say it was the 1400cc CVH as found in mk5 escorts and orions, was very harsh, noisy, hopeless on fuel and as unrefined as a toolbox in a cement mixer.
Awful engine in every way.

I found the 1.4 cvs to be quite a torquey little motor, mine was good on fuel
Think the 1.3 endurance lump is great as well, you can practically run them dry of any fluid and they run.
1.25 zetec se some how manages to be worse on fuel than a 1.6 zetec se ?
Can't believe any one hasn't offered up the early 1.6 zetec e as fitted to the fiesta si
Could only manage 89bhp and 25mpg. Absolutely tiny valves as well. Hateful engine. However that went on for ever as we'll, just couldn't blow the fucker up.

I agree with you there I had 5 1.4i cvh pte engines suffer the black death in my mk6 escort one even blew 20 miles after an oil change due to a blockage in the oil tube at the back of the engine

A (former) friend assured me the 2.2 in my Turbo 1992 Probe Gt was U.S.-manufactured. I have never owned a Japanese car (for personal reasons) until now. I do like the features and the power seems enough for an econo-driver. I'm converting to a travel shuttle (no back seat, thus, "sleeping quarters," etc.) and may make into an open car as friends & I did with the then-new Fox-stangs for Galpin, Williams and other Ford dealers. Would appreciate any input/tips. BTW am new here. Also own a '70 Continental and two MK IIIs, plan to get back my 67 'Stang F/B and ,62 T-Bird. Thanx, BC
