Default £800 shock absorbers

Just picked up my 55 Mondeo 2.2 tdci Estate from the garage- serviced & MOT'd.
The problem is one rear shock is starting to leek the mechanic pointed this out to me and said it/they will need replacing soon, price £310 each plus VAT!!! apparently they are self leveling. My question is this; is it possible to fit standard shocks or do I need to change the springs aswel? as this would be the much cheaper option.

You can swap out the self levelers for standards and yes you have to fit new standard springs to match. The standard springs are much stiffer.

You can replace both springs and shocks for less than the price of replacing one self leveling unit.

If ya not sure I'm Sudbury way and can convert it over if you. Give me a PM

Same on the Mk4 however you have to be careful as the self levelling system also contains the sensors for the auto head light adjust and changing them can cause errors in that system.
