Default Escort rs Turbo S2 Resto

Ey up, am new to all this so will have to bear with me.

I bought this car after a 7 hour round trip from wakefield to essex, it was a known car back in its day when it was looked after from what i have found out about it. When i bought it the bloke told me it was in performance ford, i personally thought he was pulling me tail as it wasnt in the best condition but i wasnt fussed as i wanted a bit of a project and it was a decent price.

so when a got it back to sunny yorkshire i couldnt believe the power it had was tons quicker than a previous rs i had so was absolutly suited by my buy soon as a got in i was riffling throught the massive folders of info and receipts there was a rolling road print out from 2010 for 240bhp the grin got bigger!!!

A wanted to find out the history of the car and if it was a feature, asked a couple of people on here a couple of people said it was a lad called ravi and it featured in a escort rs turbo inssue of pf in 2005 so emailed them straight away and with a bit of luck they sent me a pf file of the feature in the magazine (a would attach the file but aint got a clue how to)

now i had the info it was time to get down and dirty with the VE-hicle, got the borther in law round whos a mechanic as a know very little about the mechanics of cars, the release clutch bearing has gone aswell the electrics were chopped up to feck and wiring was goosed, and from what we could see and feel for the sills were rotten now for some pictures

as it stood when a first got it back

When a got home saturday asked a neighbour who is a mechanic to have a look at me lights see if he could fathom them out as on the dash the full beam was on but in actual fact there was no full beam at all after a hour of checking everything possible we were no closer to finding the problem, with the MOT and tax due i bit the bullet and decided to SORN it, without wasting no time spent all saturday night, sunday and monday stripping it by me sen this is as it stands now

the chopped to bits wiring loom

is this a household earth cable???

the spare room

Thats as far as i am at the moment, has a body repair bloke come round tonight to have a pikes see what he thinks the said the floor pans should be ok may need a patch up but the arches and sills need sorting, there is slight bubbling on the top by the sunroof asked him about that but he seems to think he wouldnt be able to repair for some reason

aim is to have to all sorted by just after the new year, all the rust sorted, full respray(still unsure whether to stay black thinking white) engine and gearbox all sound and sorted cheers for your time

whats the roof look like from inside?

roof is hard to weld because the heat distorts the metal. can be done tho

the inside is fine from what a can see its the outside that is just starting to bubble, think its the actual sunroof carrier that has rusted but havnt taken it out yet cause want to keep it as dry as possible, see a dont know many welders up these ends and he sounded like he didnt even want to try sort the roof.

ive seen your thread before very nice motor how much your carbon fibre roof cost? and how does it attach?

Thanks for comments, all my own work except for etch and high build primer by my mate Colin,my other mate martin has helped getting shell ready for paint,Colin will spray it when its ready for top coat, all underside coatings were dun by mi sen
I will be back on with it when I have finished the Cadillac, the passenger door is nearly there and I have made a start on the drivers door not as bad as the passenger side, just leaving bonnet, tailgate, bumpers and body kit.
I live in Hallgreen but know Outwood quite well, I worked at Stanley for 10yrs

bit of a update, as i locked the car up on monday all was well then went to get in it yest to try do some bits the crap battery had drained some how so now i had the joys of having to break into me own car had to wedge the door and used a old curtain pole hook off a coat hanger had to bend it a bit to reach the drivers side door handle, all i could think i was going to have to do is put window thru but with a bit of luck it worked here is the little beauty

with that problem sorted i started taking the sideskirts, arches and bumpers off to see the extent of the rust and rot was expecting the worse so i was all geared up and ready!!

i knew the passengers rear arch and both sills had already gone but other than that was really suprised to be honest

took a pic of the engine as there aint one on here of it p.s the colour scheme aint feck all to do wi me

check out the ht lead

as ive probable said the car just aint been looked after!!
and am sure the towing eye aint supposed to be pointing this way lol

thats all for now folks next plan is to get the outhouse sorted for a little workshop get a cover over her then get the engine and gearbox out
