Default Acceptable gt30 shaft play with vid

Is a little play in this gt3076r acceptable? the blades do not contact the housing at all, it spins well and free and it has about 1mm of play in & out

Thanks
Marc

Mine was just the same, no smoke or other noises etc. I was very dubious at first, but after reading on Garrett site, it is normal so oil can cushion the pressure when thrusting.

Perfectly normal for a GT core, I wouldn't keep spinning it like that though without some oil in the core

Just got to wait for the bloke i bought it from to send me an 82 rear housing now as he said it was an 82 and when it turned up it is clearly a 63 genuine mistake but now i need an 82 housing with 4 bolt pattern

Someone else has the opinion the there should be no in/out play whatsoever in the gt series so it seems there is a split opinion about this???

this is the info i used to justify running mine, which has about the same play as yours, all to do with hydrodynamic damping.

not sure if that accounts for all play, but had mine on for 500miles since i bought it from clarke and no smoke or noises.
