Default rs2000 4x4 gearbox

Hi everyone

first of all say sorry if it is not the place to post that and if i should do somthing before posting, is my first time.

i come from spain and i'm posting here because you all know more about ford than anyone else in spain so... i hope you could understand my english.

The question is that i have an RS2000 4x4. i have tested the escort 1.8i 16v 105bhp gearbox and i liked it more than mine. Could i change the gearbox from the 1.8i to the RS2k??

Thanks in advance

I would say its a bad idea, the best place for specialist rs2k parts and advice is on rs2000-16v.com

the answer would be no unless you were coverting her to 2wd which imo would be a crazy idea, keep it 4x4 mate mine handles lovely round corners

But i shouldn't do it because the torque could break the gearbox or just because it doesn't fit??

the gear box would be but you wouldn't be able to bolt the transfere box to it,
You would have to convert it to fwd

They made 4x4's in smaller engines over in europe.
We only had the 2.0 rs2k. They had base model 4x4'x so it may possibly work

I only just found this out myself, Hence the change of mind to my earlier post

What about the Mondeo 4x4 gearbox?
I would suspect that the ratios would be lower?

Also I always thought that sthe 4x4 gearbox was no different to the FWD models, it just had something that bolted in to the O/S driveshaft 'hole' on the gearbox?

4x4 gear box's are very different to the fwd version, The casing is different aswell as having a viscous coupling,

The mondeo box is totally different and it favours fwd where are the escort is a 60/40 power split in favour of the rear wheels
