Default Warped Disc ?

Hi all.

I had a topic recently about my car pulling to the left.
I now have a bit more insight into my problem.

I raised the drivers side wheel, Span the wheel and there was resistance before coming to a stop.
I turned the engine on and the wheel would turn half way round before stopping on its own, with a little push it would go again, turn half way then stop.
I took the wheel off and pushed the brake disc backwards and it would spin better, So i put on 2 wheel nuts, opposite eachother and if they are tightened roughly the same tightness the same thing happens as when the wheel was on, it would spin a little bit with a bit of resistance, if I loosen one side very slightly, the disc spins effortly and I tried the same with the wheel back on, and the wheel span pretty fast without stopping or resisting. But then If I tighten the nuts the same, there is resistance and the wheel stops again. (remember all this was with the engine running).

I replaced my discs and pads a few months ago, but when troubling shooting the problem, I found that the slide pins on the drivers side were almost seized, so took them apart and put some copper grease on them.
That obviously didnt solve my problem.

The reason I replaced my discs and pads aswell was because one of the pads had cracked very badly and I heard it rubbing.

So is this just a case of a warped disc or is there something more serious going on ?

Cheers, Jason

They are made by pagid, as are the pads, which are supposed to be alright.

Swap it with passenger side. See if it does the same thing

If the sliders are defiantly free, then you probably have a seized caliper? Remove the caliper and try?

The engine running makes no difference.

The thing with the engine is when its running and the wheel is off the ground, it will turn slowly by itself.

Is the mating face between disc and hub properly clean? When you come to a stop at traffic lights etc do you sit there with your foot on the brake? This is the number 1 cause of warped discs!

I will have a look at the mating face between the disk and hub later.
I will also check to see if the piston is seized.
I don't sit with the brakes on at lights or junctions, no.

I have some spare discs I can try to see if it is the disc.

Thanks

Seized caliper or warped disc, that's the only thing it can be, to me it sounds like the caliper.

If the caliper was seized, would it still work, If only a little bit?
If I brake very hard from say 50-60, it will pull towards the curb, but only If I brake very hard, I did it a few times and then I smelt the brake pads burning.

I will have a closer look.

That is what I said ^^

I still suspect the caliper, the other thing you can do is measure the "hub run-out"

I checked the caliper, it was completley fine.
The problem was the disc, definately warped, I had a old disc with only a couple hundred miles on that I put on and it worked perfectly.
It still pulls to the side slightly, no where near as much as it did, I assume the brake pulled the tracking out slightly, which ill get sorted when I go to get some new tyres next week.

Cheers for your help.

It is impossible for a brake to pull tracking out.

If it pulls to one side when you apply the brakes, one caliper is seized. ( assuming pads/discs are in some sort of usable order and brakes are bled properly )

Calipers definately not seized.
Maybe the garage didnt do it properly, or could be due to the rear sub frame bushes, they are in dire need of replacement which im doing in the next couple of days, I know that can affect it.

If I brake though it doen't pull to the side now like it did, it brakes in a straight line, just veers to the side if Im driving and let go of the wheel.
