Just got a 03 tdci and is the fan is on all the time ahould it be or is there somthing corsing it to be on ??

 

If the air conditioning is on or the fan control inside the car is set to windscreen (which also turns the AC on automatically) this will make the engine cooling fan run.

Make sure the AC is off and the fan control is set to face or something and see if it goes off.

The wifes 1.6 16v 53 reg focus does it all the time the air con can be switched off and when you start the car the rad fan comes straight on.

My friend over the road,his focus did the same.

 

On the petrels it means the cylinder head temp switch has failed.

 

It's irrespective of the A/C, as said above, if the direction is set to windscreen the A/C is on!

The fan relays are known to play up , fords change lots of these . They wife's fiesta mk7/8 Zetec s fan relay recently packed up and ran the fan constantly till the battery was dead ! Changed the £23 relay , problem sorted.
