Rs Focus front bumper respray.
Can anyone give me an idea of what it would cost to get a Mk1 FRS bumper completely repainted due to stone chips. Possibly going to look at one but i think it is going to need this doing so just want to know what i could be letting myself in for in terms of cost.
The present owner says he has been quoted £120 but i think this is possibly a bit too cheap.

Sounds a bit cheap to me as well, I would have thought £200 minimum for a good job, I paid £180 to have a brand new bootlid flatted and painted and couldn't find anyone to do it cheaper, and I did try everywhere I could. And mine didn't need much work where stonechips are going to need flagging out and probably some high build primer and flatting to make good, not sure how much a new bumper panel would be as they probably come prepainted from ford.

I'm not sure where the present owner has got his quote from but if i buy the car and have to get it done it will be at a garage. I phoned a local company this afternoon that has been recommended to me and the guy there quoted me £250-270 + VAT and i know that they will do a good job.

Tbh any half decent bodyshop should be able to sort a bumper.
£200 sounds about right to me,£250&vat is very high, you won't be able to tell the difference between the two jobs believe me.
Top quality paint?clearly someone who's never painted anything in his life,we painted my bike in the most expensive lacquer you could buy at the time (lad in the paint shop gave me a gallon as they were moving sites for free due to my custom) and needed to go bacj and do a few more bits which we did in hp body, which is one of the cheapest laquers you can buy and it looked no different.
Don't believe the hype, bodyshops are struggling right now so there's deals to be had.

it would be about £120 at the bodyshop i run my painter has been doing it for £30 years and is very good, stonechips are not at all difficult to get rid off, dont know where people are gettin £200-£300 quotes from there is around £15 max in paint and laquer with around 1-2 hours labour over a couple of days (curing time)depending on how badly chipped to do a bumper and thats with good quality paint!
The guy that quoted me told me he would remove the bumper, remove all the chips presumably by sanding, re-prime and then repaint. Will probably get another quote locally just to give me a bit more idea (although your opinions are very welcome and appreciated)

That's pretty cheap,I'm basing £200 as an all in with vat etc price.i think 1-2 hrs would perhaps be a bit optimistic what with masking/removing trims etc,but as you said only sanding needed really to get rid of stonechips, perhaps a bit of red stop to remove any final imperfections but a very straightforward job.
£15-20's worth of materials what with discs, masking tape, sheeting, stopper etc, perhaps a bit of compound of there's any runs.
Bumper on/off would be an hours labour so I reckon I'm close with £200.
Can't see why he would re-prime the whole bumper?
£250 if the garage was taking the bumper off and refitting it IMO.
If you were to take it off yourself and take grills and lights out £120 is about right.
But £250-£300 is robbery!!!
