Hi im am new to this site so please bare with me. i am thinking of getting a mark1 mexico that has been offered to me but it is on a p plate 1975 could anyone out there help me out with any info. because the first date of registration is the 4/8/1975 is this date true to a mark 1 or would it be a mark 2 with the date. many thanks and i hope someone out there can help me out or give me some info were i can check it out myself before i commit to buying. thanks richard

 

as far as i know they built mk1 escorts until November the 4th 1974 , but many people have reshelled mk1's as mk2's ( in the 1980's ) so maybe this car has been done the other way round, either that or its a ringer, im also new here in fact this is my first post so hi everyone

 

(also my first post) The car is most likely a MKI as the MKII Mexico didn't come out until early 1976. In general the last MKI's were N reg but as with all cars when a new model arrives it can be hard selling off the old one so afew lay around on dealers forecourts for a while before being registered for the road I have come across afew MKI's that are P reg i've also seen afew MKII's on an X reg.

The best way to get information on these cars is to join an owners club the Sporting Escort Owners Club cater for all models of MKI & MKII Escorts there is also the RS Owners Club and the AVO Owners Club.
