Talking zetec oil pump faliure?

ive read through lots of old posts regarding this but i have a strange fault on my zvh

its a 2.1 silver top using a standard ford 1.8 escort oil pump,
whilst on track at ford fair the pressure dropped from its usual 40-60 to 20 on the guage and down as low as 8 on idle when warm, at this point the pressure light was starting to flicker as well, the guage is a ford racing capillary type so not a cheapo one)

ive since changed the oil and checked for leaks etc and all is fine there but now when i start from cold there is no pressure showing for the first 3 or 4 seconds which is worrying and then it shoots up to 60 at idle and off the guage when revved (about 100 )
after about 3 or 4 mins of running the pressure now drops to about 20 on idle and when revved to 3-4k itll rise nicely to 60 as it did before but again once warm the pressure drops to 15 on idle, now ive only driven the car round the block recently and there is no rattles so i think big ends are still ok,

the question is has the oil pump died totally or is there a non return valve or spring that has had it or could just be stuck?

im not too bothered about having to fit a new pump but its not the easiest job in a mk3 escort as some of you will know

Could be dirt jamming the prv or the prv spring has broke , or the internal rotar has split and your getting oil slippage but if that has happened then it will prob stop working soon , can't you take the prv out while it's all together ??

didnt know if there was a prv that was easy to get to, if the sumps got to come off to fiddle with it i may as well change it, i was just kinda hoping there was a quick easy fix as to remove the sump i need to split the engine and box as well to get at 2 of the bolts so not a 5 min job

You can get to the silver top prv, sump off on a black top.

Is there anyway to check the prv? As mine is similar to this, on cranking I have only about .5bar of pressure once fired up its upto 5.4bar but once warm on idle drops to around 1.6bar. Or does that sound ok

Dicko, 1.5-2.0 bar is what i'd expect to see on a blacktop at idle when up to temp.
