Well, I bought this from Christian many moons ago now, but a lack of spare funds (and a solid car to put it into at the time ) meant it was left sealed-up in the corner of the engine-building room at APT until the time was ready.

Unfortunately, I'm at a sensible time in my life where I need to think about getting on the housing ladder rather than being stuck paying rent forever, and coupled with my current 200+bhp engine still being ever reliable (cheers Gary ), I have no need for another sitting about with decent money tied-up in it.

So, here it is.



1600cc CVH. Original-size block, with a fresh hone. Drilled and tapped to accept an EFI crank sensor and flywheel trigger, so it's spec'd for modern management.

Standard virgin crank (never been machined, hence its at its strongest).

Was built when the engine was 52,000 miles old, and had done 8000 miles in it's highly-tuned spec. The block was fully refaced, line-honed and balanced when it was first built.

It has Farndon Steel Rods, Ross Racing 80.5mm Forged Pistons to Christian's spec, Ultra-rare Cross-hatch head, custom ported and with Stainless Inlet/Exhaust Valves. A custom Newman cam is supplied (which will suit 300-350bhp), along with solid lifters and single valve springs (these will ideally need the clearances checking again in a few hundred miles after running-in).

The sump is baffled and fitted with an M12 temperature boss and the oil pickup has been modified to suit the baffled sump.

The block is painted black, the head is painted silver. The engine is for sale "as is"- block, head and everything inside- no manifolds or ancilliaries.

This engine has proven 351bhp, done just under 172mph, and was one of the defining CVH's of it's time. After I bought it, Christian (in his usual perfectionist ways) fully stripped and checked everything, including relapping the valves and re-honing the bores, along with fitting new rings. It also has a new head gasket, sump gasket and stem seals.

My intention was/is to run a GTX28 turbo with it for a comfortable 300bhp with the scope for more, and was Christian's recommendations for an ultimate road-spec CVH.

My only other option is to find a buyer for my current, more humble 220+bhp 1600cc RST EFI engine, but I believe a fresh-build one with this sort of spec will likely sell quicker (and definately for more money ), although the option is there if someone wants to make an offer.

Just the engine I'm after too (300bhp +), but a bit too rich for my bloody at the mo, sadly!! I got £3k for engine, turbo and in an ideal world a cts stage 2+ box too :-( Ow :-(

just wanted to send a little mesage to say it has been a pleasure doing business and thanks for all your help ect with regards to this purchase it will take a while to build the rest of the car but this engine is clearly a huge step in right direction. an absolute pleasure to deal with. thanks again. Cant wait to get this legendary engine running again!!!

indeed i am, just got to do the engine justice now and build the rest of the car properly around it. aiming to have the car up and running in around 12 - 18 months sort of time. cannot wait!!!

i am hoping to hit the 300 bhp figures with this engine, and the rest of the set up. it will be being housed in a fiesta now though!!! mk3 currently an xr2i but quite clearly wont be n/a for much longer!!!
