My mate had one , not bad little cars but I think there was a thing with them where if you got a little bit air born the hand brake locked up the back wheels , I think that's what it was anyway
a mate of mine had a g plate 5 dr in red back in 93, they had the 1.9 engine, it used to go like shit off a shovel, he smashed it up over taking, the bloody idiot, it needed 2 new front wings and a new rear 1/4 panel, and they bloody repaired it, he still drove like a twat afterwards
Guy up my road has had a white one for at least 15 years....its spent its entire life outside his garage under a cover...got a subtle bodykit on it and rarely hear him start it up...sounds mad....
Also got a 205gti in the garage pretty much the same.. white with same alloys/bodykit and thats not been out the garage for a good 6-10 years.

allways wanted one, bought one 3dr in black e plate.Drove it from oldham to stoke and stuck it through the block 2 days later
Still not sure why 18 years later. All my mates had owned or did own 205's and I wanted to be different .I still look at them now and think hmmm or maybe gte number 6

my friend had one red late H plate 3 door (nicer tailights and front lights)
slammed on the standard wheels and still got five people in (7 on one occasion)
no difference between its little brother the 205gti as we had many races with them. if anything the 309 was slightly better as first gear was looooong (indicated 49mph)
fond memories....i bought renault 19 16v and battered him though

i had a beige/brown/goldy coloured 309 1.6 sri 5 door.
was a reasonable car, but in the first few days of owning it the started packed in, luckily i lived on a hill so could bump it. when it came to change the bastard i had to take pretty much the whole front end off the car to do it...
then a week later a lad from schoold mum it turned out, pulled out in front of me at a roudabout and wrote it off
had it about a month all in
got a 205 gti after that

I had one in black 10 years ago, it had shit loads of work done to it was unbelievably quick but suffered from ridiculous understeer!!!
Put it into the back of an old shape micra who had decided to turn left on a no left turn, parked it on the side of the road intending to pick it up the next day, and when i arrived................. no wheels, both door locks ripped out and the best bit
A WOMAN with her knickers round her ankles, clutching a tin foiled evian bottle asleep on the back seat!!!!!!!
It needed a wing, headlight and a bit of paint, but the smell inside would have taken more effort to get rid of than i was prepared to put in!

i had a white 3dr gti. loved it, and still think 3dr's look nicer than the 205. after coming from a montego 1.6 (stacked it within 2 days)
then a cav sri(1.8i) the pug felt ''lively'' and understeer/wheelspin became par for the course. not tweaked rs turbo quick but would make fun of similar n/a cars. it made me realise how shit the sri was in 1.8 guise. ps i was only 17 with ''very little'' driving experience. im a good boy now though. would have another 309 for the right money.
