Default Trade Insurance

Having recently starting my own company 6 months ago. I wanted to transfer my existing 2 car policies onto one trade policy and let the company pay for it.

Also want to be able to drive anything else with tax and MOT.

Am also contemplating buying a van/pickup/wagon to transport scrap. So will be getting a waste carriers license shortly. - Want this vehicle covered as well when it happens.

Keep hearing how the cops am getting shit-hot on metal yards these days - need to be fully legit.

Also could do with chucking a bit of public liability insurance in the mix as well if possible.

Anyone got any experience in insurance in this field? Any ideas on rough cost? (is gonna be £800 or more like £2000+ ?)

Any info much appreciated - and any decent insurers recommended would be a help.

If not will keep trawling the web for answers.

Ring who up?

I've currently got a fez insured with tesco, and an orion insured on a classic policy with lancaster.

I want to scrap the two existing policies and get them onto a trade policy from somebody.

Dunno who to ring.

Am planning on buying and selling a few motors, so need insurance to drive 'uninsured' cars. And at a later date, will be putting a scrap transporter (van or recovery truck etc) on the policy, too.

Thanks anyhow - any ideas on who to ring, would be mint.

there are a few companies out there, literally ring all you can.
dna insurance, quotemetoday and so on, i paid around £2200 last year and does cover the xr2 with mods, but that did push up the figure quite a bit. that was me and the misses, our three cars and anything else that passes through my hands upto 15k.
just ring round, take a few hours on the phone and you'll find one that suits.

Be aware though, and this goes for anyone with a trade policy...If you have a claim, and cant provide full evidence that you are legit motor vehicle trader, they will often refuse to pay out and you will be left with no insurance.

proof includes invoices, reciepts, proof of business turnover, minimum number of cars sold etc etc.

For proper TRADE INSURANCE you can pay anything upto 4/5k.

Most of these "Trade Policies" are just road risk now and don't cover you for nothing.

Do your homework and ring around for the best quote.

Good luck with your new business.

He gave me the best quotes, much better than other agents who were quoting for the same company.

He talked me through the policy, making everything clear to me as i'd not had a trade policy before, made sure he was putting me with a suitable company, etc.

I decided against a trade policy in the end. I wasn't planning on trading legit and it seemed like too many hoops to jump through really. Not worth the hassle.

i used tradex
but stopped when i realized my own car was also only covered for trade value and as its on hpi it needed full comp

car was worth at the time around £7000 trade value around £5-6000 sod that! plus it was only TPFT

i paid £900 for road cover up to a claim value of £10k
so i drive a £13k car crash it and its covered for NOTHING i was TPFT!
really get into the dots and i's mate it will save you a fortune if anything does happen

I'm looking at £594 tpft, 5k vehicle indemnity, I'm not going to be driving anything over 5k, just looking at vehicle restoration and sales on a part time basis.

For that price i would doubt your covered for bugger all

As said people dont realy understand propper trade insurance and think these " road risk " policies are trade insurance and they arnt

Most propper trade cover will cost a min of 4k if its cheaper then you dont have correct cover

There is a massive amount of " get out clauses " in cheap trade cover so read the small print

as with anything in life you get what you pay for
