Default Buying guide. Zetec tdci

I went to look at an lx tdci 2006 estate today and was disappointed.
As the guy turned up revving to turn round it was puffing black smoke. Had a loud fuely knock at Tickover. It went as soon as the revs picked up and body work tatty so I walked away.
I have seen a few of the 130 tdci Zetec mondeos but they are always a bit cheaper. Is there a reason?

Probably because they're the lowest spec (apart from the Edge). Mechanically all TDCi130s are identical and as there are lots of TDCIs about you can be choosy - so although it's an arse shop around.

Generally the Ghias, Titaniums and especially the Zetec S models command a bit more money. Try and get a facelift, 6 speed one.

Whoever told you that was talking out of their bum hole! TDCis come in 115bhp and 130bhp flavours and the blocks are identical across the range, as are the engine internals.

There are some 90bhp models, but they're rare, and rubbish, so ignore them. Plus there are the TDDi models which have their own pros and cons.

Oh and I was wrong above, the LX is below the Zetec in the range, but there aren't massive spec differences.

I'm hoping he bought one that has already had it done as in my experience 80K is the 'danger zone' for DMF and injector issues.
