I am a mot tester and mechanic, I am considering becoming self employed.

Just looking for any advice/success stories if anyone has gone down this route

Cheers

research a good accountant, then test the market where you are by advertising your services especially if you will be going mobile, and start by doing some at the weekend or days off... This means you can see how it going while you have another income stream. Remember some cars cost more to service than others (prestige makes). Also make sure you have got suppliers lines up for you for the bits you will need so there are no delays in getting customers cars back.

work out how you will be paid.. I know this sounds silly, but not every one wants to pay cash, so what will your policy be on cheques? Also remember we are in the 21st century so internet banking is good and maybe even pay pal... if you are using services like paypal make sure you know in ADVANCE what their charges are.

Tools - you probably have most of what you need already but start budgeting for those you REALLY need, SEPARATE this from your wish list of nice to have tools!

Good luck
