Morning all. I'm looking to find a garage I can trust to give me a true evaluation of my little Fiesta MK6 for an honest price and fix her back to working ways.

I've looked at the Good Garage Scheme, checked out those with voluntary codes of practice such as Motor Codes and Bosch Service, but I'm really none the wiser.

It's a Ford Fiesta Style 1.25 06 Plate 3dr.

I live in Norwich city centre but the car is currently nearer Wymondham. There is a Motor Codes Ford garage very near, but is it worth taking it there due to the high labour prices?

I am currently being told to find my own engine and they will fit it for me - all a bit of a nightmare for a novice such as myself. I did make a thread here but got no responses on this forum.

What exactly is it you want done to your fiesta? new engine i guess but are you looking for another 1.25 or something bigger?

 

Exactly the same engine, so that when it comes to selling it, having had the engine replaced isn't a problem (which I fear it may be with a different sized engine). Anyway, my insurance is expensive enough with it as a 1.25!

 

You should try the Fiesta Centre if they still in Rackheath . I took my x2 turbo to them years ago for some work , they were very trusting indeed .

I've managed to locate a good engine and am using the original garage to fit it for simplicity and while the price isn't the best offered it's not terrible.


Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do with the old engine? Is there any way I can money for it? I guess it's not salvageable.

 

engine scrap is about Ł30 i guess


if you are changing the engine its actually really easy on a mk6 fiesta
i bought one with a blown engine and got a 3000 mile engine for 230 and in it went and outed the car
with these its like mechano so you remove the bumper and front panel (complete with rad etc) then teh engine is just sat there for the taking
this was mine and all those parts come off very easily and apart from a few wires and pipes its very easy, i could do it in a day no sweat, a morning with help

 

from memory
lamps out
bumper off (torx underside and 10mm's to wings then pull)
front panel off with its hoses and wiring
inlet off (fuel pipe is squeeze fit)inc its maf etc (hook it all up if possible if you have trouble with wiring etc)
starter off
battery and tub off
exhaust manifold off head
bolts out of gearbox to engine joint,
engine mount loose
lift engine a bit and remove the mount then wiggle the engine free from the box
and remove it
leave the p/s pump in the bay but off the engine the same with the aircon if possible but you will have to be very carefull if you leave it connected to the aircon rad
cant be much else, then its check new engines parts (if super low miles all is good)
slide it into the box , fit top mount and get the bolts into teh box/engine joint
and its all getting there

 

Sorry - not sure if I wasn't clear but I've commissioned the garage to fit the engine. I doubt the warranty that comes with the engine would be valid if I fitted it myself, nor would I have any of the required equipment but thanks anyway!

I was asking what I can do with the old engine that has been removed from my car. It's either scrap or could be sold to somewhere that reconditions engines potentially.

 

just bin it, get the oil out and run it in or leave it behind the shed for forget about it


where did you new engine come from? good on the miles?

54k miles, comes with a 1 year warranty which was the big attraction. It's been fully tested and they had next day delivery for ~Ł400, which compared OK to other prices I found online, most had 60 day warranties too.

This is my best understanding...

The head gasket went as a result of the radiator leaking. The coolant was emptied from the engine the thermostat wasn't recording a high engine temp as there was no fluid to read the temperature from. Hence the head warped and pistons were likely softened.

The car had been driven for ~10 miles before losing drive and the power steering went, as soon as this happened the driver read the engine temperature as max and the car couldn't be restarted by theAA and had to be towed.
