Default 5k weekend toy

After something for me and the misses to have as a weekend play toy. Ideally wants to be small enough to fit in the garage. So not evos or scoobys. Can be stripped out with buckets etc. Want around 200bhp per ton. Thought about 205 gti with mi16 in it. 182 clio. Max budget of 5k any ideas guys?

This is what I would have if had the money. For sale on Mk1 fiesta site:

As above, have gotta put the car for sale!! I always said i wouldnt sell, but due to a change in circumstances, im left with the white car as a daily and its to nice for that!! The blue car is sitting in the garage doing nowt so its up for sale!!
Full spec list;
Body
Genuine MK1 Xr2 shell, engine bay modified to take Zetec, fully seam welded bay with strengthening plates, crystal smoked Mk2 Golf headlights, smoothed front and rear bumpers, smoothed grille, de-locked, petrol cap smoothed, no rear wiper.
Engine
1800 Zetec, , Kent cams, Weber twin 45s, Gems management, Brice custom radiator, Ashley four-branch manifold, Scorpion stainless system. Made 141bhp on Power Engineering rollers
Transmission
S2 gearbox
Suspension
Front GAZ coilovers, xr rear shocks, Compbrake top mounts, adjustable panhard rod, custom strut brace, strengthened lower arms, fully poly bushed.
Brakes
Compbrake bias pedal box, Tar-Ox grooved and vented discs

Interior
Fully stripped-out, full Rollcentre cage – twin diagonal, Sparco Pro 200 seats, carbonfibre doorcards, Autometer Gauges, Petrol Tank re-located to boot.
Theres not MOT or tax, altho i think the price reflects that!! If it doesnt sell it will go on ebay with a years ticket but the price will rise accordingly!! I dont think theres anything for it to fail on, it was last used September 2011 when we went Castle Coombe for the day!! The car loved it, didnt miss a beat all day and was great fun!!
Pics from this morning;

Heres a link to the build thread, pretty much from start to finish;

That Mk1 Fiesta is a great looking thing.

I'd also look at Mk6 Escort RS2000 or an RS1600i (Both go on ebay for way less than £5K). Don't know there bhp/tonne but maybe spend the change on upping the power?

Fiesta RS would be on my list to.

How about a Fiat Coupe turbo? Pug 306 gti?

I'd go for something a little older, something that puts a smile to your face.. Something you appreciate and something to your taste.

That fiesta sure looks tasty.

When I was looking to buy one a year or two ago, I was told by quite a few people that they had issues with their injectors - found a few on eBay which had that same issue. Neighbour of mine and cousin hasn't had any issues with theirs... So maybe it was a dodgy batch same with the VW's? (Referring to the 3C Passats - not sure if any other models had recalls on the injectors)

Also, with the RX8's, I've found a few with engine weaknesses so walked away from them too. Not really a weekend toy mind.

If you're going to get something, read into their weaknesses and faults on specific forums and check eBay e.g. type RX8 Spares (or Repair) and read what common issues they have - its how I found out.

Saying that, I'd still love one purely for their looks...

I know that car well, owner is a good (but very gay) mate of mine. It's wanted for nothing, very well prepared and looked after.

I disagree with the "too good to track" comment. It has the right spec to be fun, so why not? I tracked and fully abused my Mk1.....it's more fun than polishing

This one hasn't been treated as a "track slag" though. Only did Combe as far as I know. I went out in it and he was just enjoying it, not raping it.

Whoever buys the Blue one will be happy I'm sure

How small must your garage be if you can't fit an Impreza or an Evo in there? The garage in my old house was literally as small a garage as you'll get, but I still got an Impreza, Mondeo and E36 BMW in there at times.

And that's what my suggestion would be, an E36 M3 or 328i with choice modifications.

You big northern monkey 😂 I see what you did last week, no way can you call me gay!! Il donate something next week mate, bank is empty til payday!!

Thanks for all the comments on the car, I never thought I would sell it, but using a freshly restored standard one as a daily hurt to much, especially with the amount of rain we've had!!

I've actually swapped the car with a very good friend of mine!! He has a e46 330d that he barely uses so we've swapped, plus £500 coming my way!! It's been remapped and puts out 210brake but with 440 torques so should be fun!! The most specced car I've has is a escort gti, so looking foward to some creature comforts!!

Sorry for the thread hi-jack!!

As standard, the gear ratios in an EK9 Type R are quite long... which blunts the performance IMO. However, if a (96-spec pref.) DC2 JDM Integra fits in the garage then it's worth looking into... can be stripped to close to a ton, handle well, good brakes, seats, lsd etc all as standard.

Another option, again Honda, is to look into a later MB6 VTi (5dr) or an EK4 VTi (3dr) and slap on a turbo kit with some supporting mods... get it running 300+bhp and go like a missile for around your budget. Plus, being a B-series engine, Type R gearboxes etc from the same era (DC2 and EK9) are a straight swap.

Cheers,
Grant
