is there any way of refurbing the mechanisms in the older recaro seats as mine are getting a bit rattly??

Not sure if will help, but I have the Recaro's from an Escort RS2000 and the runners were rusty and were rocking, I swapped the runners from the half leather GTI ones which were electric(bonus). So you might be able to swap all the runners from lesser models, obviously yours might have the tilt mechanism which the lesser models wont have. Best place to look would be the scrappers.
