Tow estate car. Which one. After 1997 licence
I am looking to buy something to tow my VR6 golf track car. I passed my driving test in August 1997 so I'm in the category that I need to take my trailer licence.
Iv been looking into the ways about doing with out the test and tow weights. Trailer weights etc.
With a Brian James clubman trailer and a VW passat estate diesel 130hp model I can tow legally.
Any other estate diesels that will do the job? Or what to look for with passat estate? 2001-02 models.

Got offered one of those last week for Ł1500 with a slight crunch into 2nd gear, facelift on a 51 plate 6 speeder.
Great cars though, infinitely tuneable and nice to drive.
Also try the Volvo d5,strong as hell and again plenty to uprate them as well, maybe pushing your weight limit though.
Avoid any mondeo mk3,absolute pish and almost guaranteed to fail at some point or another.
Not sure how the avensis d-4d shape up but being a Toyota I'd imagine very well.
Don't forget the A4 either,I've often seen them a touch cheaper than the passats.
As a cheapy you won't go far wrong with a pug 406 td or hdi, they do starship mileages and come up well under a grand.
Mega comfy and economical too.

There was a post by chip a while back that explained it all.
