brought this a few days ago, there was a rebuild thread on here a few years ago but its been sat since/neglected so time to bring it back up to scratch

i did build the mk4 converted to mk3 rwd cosworth escort a few years ago & sold it 95% complete as it was far to clean to use & since then have wanted another so when i saw this up for grabs i thought why not?

the car was in a few bits when i got it & wasnt running cos of various bits remved & no loom etc
engine hadnt been run since fully rebuilt

i stripped front end down to make sure all running gear was fitted correct, then refitted everything back up for peace of mind & monuted oil cooler



i tried to get car running but loom etc was a mess & fuel rail was leaking so out came the loom



the loom was fitted but was an rs turbo loom that had all the unwated wires cut back to near fuse box & then taped over/heatshrunk as seen below


so i removed all the tape & pulled out any wires & completely removed them from fuse box as the loom is only for lights, starter, wipers, rev counted & oil switch as all rest will be on the cossie engine loom

refitted it in the bay (havnt taoed up bulkhead half as have to munted wiper motor etc so not sure on length etc

also the bonnet wouldnt shut & was previously on raisers as the actuator hit the bonnet but after i re-drilled the actuator bracket & adjusted turbo houseing i got it fitted without the raiser blocks so more of a std stealth look, needs front rubbers adjusting but its work in progress.

also car is fitted with avo colivers but for sum reason the std top spring cups had been fitted so i removed front legs & removed them so another job done.

wired the engine in this after noon & got it fired up


lots of small jobs to do before its on the road but its getting there considering ive only had it 3 days

Seen this on ebay, whats the crack with rear wheels, they dont look centred in the arch on the photos. Is it just a trick of the lens?

 

Nah they neva hav sat centre, dont look as bad in the flesh.
Goin to see how it drives then maybe get sum rear trailing arms modded to centre wheels up

 

what are these cars like round corners obviously escort cosworths, 3drs are all built and geared up for 4x4 but how do rs turbos handle converted to 4x4?

nice looking car m8, I saw it on ebay.
can the oil cooler not sit somewhere else as that really is blocking a huge part of the interccoler off and will transfer a lot of heat from the oil cooler to the intercooler

yer could be moved at sum point, just trying 2 get it all bolted up & have a go in it & see what needs sorting then ill go through the whole car

nope i built that 1, thats how carlo knows it as well
as he knows the guy i built it for
was a few years ago now and looks like a LOT has changed now
but the dalblair of ayr plates confirm it

Seen this on Ebay a few days back, looks like a nice motor. I hope my actuator doesn't touch the bonnet on mine when it's done :-/

i had a convo with the owner..few weeks back i was interested in it...basicaly the cars floor was not shortened enough that why the back wheel is sitting nearer to the arch.. he drove the car and the back wheels catches against the arch. so he then cut a few mm off the arches.. its the only thing that out me off it.. the car must be an absolute monster though and he said it was ALOT faster than his noble .. looks like your doing a great job mate finally sorting the car out! it looks lovely fair play.. its going to be fun and shock some people lol

He didnt cut the rear arches???
The wheels hav rubbed b4 thou but has had coilovers fitter since so maybe abit stiffer?

Once ive completed everything else im goin to look into modding sum trailing arms to correct rear wheels.

Went to local scrap yard today & got new dash plastics & loadsa little bits to help complete car.
Spent allday/nite making new steeing coloum bracket as didnt like the old one & now all ignition plastics fit allot betta, hopefully get the dash/interior completed this week

aye aye cutch be time for ye to do yer well control again eh..i was the lad that was speaking tae ye aboot fords at yer last well control..

 

Think its cos its a t38 & the actuator is bigger then a std one & it sat directly ontop of the turbo.
Sum1 had aldo modded the bracket fo it sat higher to clear the turbo houseing.

Soon as i modded ghe bracket back to std after spinning the turbo houseing it cleared, lots if small jobs like this need doing to the car, seems like sumone has rushed fitting it up.

has this car always been white? the reg plate is very familiar to me but was a grey mk4 turbo belonging to a friend of mine around 1998-2000.

Yer mate got it but been 2 busy to reply atm.
Got all trim inside completed, wired up everything on the loom so all electrics/gauges work as they should.
Got all engine wired i to ignition 2day so its kust brake servo loo
& gearstick to get & should be able to drive it

 

Very nice little project , like the attention to detail mate , its all the little bits that make the difference . Well done

 

Just took it out for a quick blast around the block but has no brakes whatso eva!!!
Has put a smile on my face thou as felt rapid!

 

i'm 99% sure this is the i built, but some of the repairs your doing make me think otherwise, as i had everything working(gauges etc)
and the engine bay wiring, and the actuator cleared the bonnet fine when i fitted it,
so its either 1 identical to the 1 i did or its been apart since(but i still think its my 1)

 

i think the old loom was a sierra one? & the previous keeper said it was very messy so he opted for an escort car loom with the cosworth loom tapped into it but he neva finished it.

in all the previous for sale posts for this car im sure it mentions fuel gauge temp gauge ect need wireing up?

anyway looms all sorted now as finished it tonite, everything working appart from reverse lights (get to that maybe tomorra) & wiper motor as i dont have 1! lol

oh yer & need to wire up the servo as no brakes at all so may need bleeding aswell?

also handbrake cable is a sierra one bodged up with lots of juberlee clips to take out the slack (shorter floor) so gonna go get a escort rs2000 one tomorra that should be right length

Just an idea for you about the rear wheels, could you not get solid alloy mounts made up but with an off set centre hole so as to move the axle forward a bit, would probably be easier than trying to modifiy the trailing arms etc, and use a smaller spacer between the diff and it's mount. I'm sure someone like MK could make these up.

the 1 i built had a full escort rst loom in it with the engine wiring chopped out the fuse box, and all gauges etc worked so maybe i'm wrong with this 1,
looks very very similar so i'm still not sure,
but either way they are brilliant fun with that kinda power so good luck with the build mate

 

done a few hrs work on the rs today, the handbrake didnt work & cable was bodged up with loads of juberlee clips so i brought a new rs2000 cable as is correct length.

after removeing old cable it became clear it had been bodged up as where the floor pan has been shortened the bit that was tripped off the floor had the handbrake cable mountings attached! lol & they havnt refitted them

i got my mate to quickly knock up 2 of these up for me & have done the job for now (think i will weld them on at a later date)





handbrake works now & cable fits as it should
