Hi i was wondering if anyone could shed any light on my coolant having a layer of oil on top which has stained my header tank?also another question iv had my gearbox rebuilt and replaced the release bearing but there is still a rattle when taking up drive (sounds like release Bearing) any ideas as im using an AP paddle clutch.

There are not many reasons for the oil on the header tank... Busted oil/water permutator, cracked block, cracked head, cracked turbo.

I had a problem when going for bigger pistons. When the cylinders where bore, because of some corrosion, there were some really small holes not visible to the naked eye that leaked water to the sump when hot.

Maybe someone can shed a light on this...

 

thank you for your fast reply,i can rule out the turbo leaking as its an air cooled one,im hoping it isnt the cylinders bein cracked as its will be an expensive job,is it possible for the head to lift under higher boost pressures??i was hoping it would be head gasket so its easier to fix.

IMO Most common cause will be HG mate.

Thanks for your replies guys I'm hopin it's HG, another quick question what you think the noise could be as I'm takin up drive does anyone else suffer with a rattle with a paddle clutch?

hope you get the oil issue resolved! i also have a rattle/knock noise when accelerating so would be good to see what ppl suggest

 

Could it be engine mounts or more specifically gearbox mounts knackered?

 

Hi,I'm running vibratechnics gearbox mounts and just a standard engine mount it sounds more like internally to the gearbox but I want to change mount so I'll try that to illiminate that.

Cheers,where is the oil cooler?? is it where the oil filter sits on??are the seals easy to change??

I have this problem oil in header tank can't b headgasket changed that in the last couple of days cus had pressure in water system all the time would a dodgy oil cooler cause pressure aswell

 

Yes, oil pressure is much higher than water pressure, that's why when the cooler fails oil goes into the water rather than water into the oil.

 

Sound iv changed everything trying to find out why there's pressure in header tank but was only doin it when It was turned off but there wasn't any visible oil in water b4 so changed headgasket and had head skimmed and tested was all fine built it back up still pressure now oil in water
