Default S2 Breather

All,

Do I need to run an uprated breather on my engine? How important is it? And am I doing any damage by not running one short term? and which ones are best?

Spec: 1.9 Specialised engine - GRS - Mongoose 2.5 inch exhuast - NMS Chip + Bleed Valve - 285T2 cam - 1 bar boost.

Quite often when I'm in the car and giving it a bit of welly I can smell oil (Don't forget I've got no interior though) and I've also been told by people following me when I boot it they can smell oil!

Any opinions?

Yes, you should be running an uprated breather. Even in std tune, they can barely cope. As std, breather fumes are sent back to the meteting head, to be burnt by the engine. This is done for enviromental reasons, but isnt good for the engine, the oil fumes promoting detonation and increasing crank case pressure.

Which are the best breathers to go for?

Can I make a decent home made one?

Does the cars fueling need to be re-checked and set-up after fitting a breather? (if the fumes don't go back to the metering head?

i have my patented 'harpic bottle' breather on my cab
although i would probably recomend you get a propper one!
GRS ones are cheap and very functional although they arent the prettiest.

otherwise splash out and get a spec R or bailey one

On my old car I had the breather return into an old bottle and blocked the breather hole. Is this worth doing?

Could I not just remove the foam from inside the little breather thingy on the rocker cover?

Should the fueling be re-set up after?
