Default Losing interest...

Ive been enjoying working on my Orion less and less lately, i still enjoy driving it but the oppurtunites when i get to are few and far between at the moment as ive just brought a house and am busy "modifying" that lol...
Im really considering selling or breaking it as it needs so much work to get it to the stage im happy with, bodywork, clutch and a few other bits...

What have you guys done to get some interest going in your cars again and what do you recommend?

Just have a break from it and you will regain your interest in it

I just started coulour coding my engine bay, when I got it the rocker cover was the typical coulour but looked ruff,I have painted that red,2k and laquer, have sprayed the crossover pipe alluminium, have put a red top boost hose onit, red coupler to throttle body, bit of red vacuum pipe, braid fuel filter pipes, sorted th speakers and 2 new front grills off twins, put a new rubber rocker gasket on with torque washers, gave it a mini service, tip dont use a cheap oil filter remover, mine ended up spraying oil all over the engine bay so cleaned most of that up,new decent sony cd player, new drivers recaro seat, now it needs a plate on the back but would rather a solid one thats had abit of welding then a shock one thats rotten to fuck, starting to get there with mine slowly, its also had a new zetec starter and the wiring behind the dash sorted

Don't be such a tart

But I know exactly how you feel. Just leave it alone for a while. I've parked my car up for a year now. Getting on with the flat etc and other projects but now I'm itching to get back on with it. Really really want to just head down to the garage and have a play. I think you will be the same.

Plus the edis replacement unit is just about done, just need a willing guinea pig to test out some launch control...... know any one with an RS Onion and OFAM?

Rob,

I lost interest over the winter just gone and decided to break it but i kept looking at it and decided against it..So then i decided to give it to NMS to build me a car and i cant wait to have it back!

Not really an incentive but the point is i lost interest for 6months then gained it!

Thanks, Joe

In theory, yes. But I haven't tested it at all yet. So in reality no... but its coming

Launch control/flat shifts cooler though and probably more useful on the road.

Cheers buddy, I'll keep you in mind. You need an extra module for it to work too, we generally test our proto stuff on Roger but if he's not about I'll give you a call I;ll probably test the anti lag on my car first (need to drag it out the garage any how) as in theory mine is all ready setup for it.

Matt - OFAM "road wars" is where its at... I'd like to get mine on some rollers at some point tho! If you need a hand with anything OFAM related m8 let me know, if not Rob-DOHC is very helpful!

Rob - How soon is it gonna be ready for testing...

Just to point out the obvious, this is not an add just friendly discussion.

Im not really too sure yet. I have the proto-proto type on the bench at the moment, but this is really only for bench testing and couldn't easily be plugged into the car. Im testing out a new type of ignition driver I came up with so want to make sure its nice and reliable first, but so far after an hour of full on spark fun the drivers were still nice and cool.

I'll give you a bell at somepoint mate, but i'm booking the dyno for a day soon so will pass on the dates etc.

Rob,

Sorry to steal your topic Rog, but while I've got all the OFAM/Megasquirt boys in one thread, what wideband do people recommend for use with MegaSq?

ZX - Good advice!
Matt - that one is what i run, excellent although takes 20-30secs to "heat" to operating temp so you can't map the 1st 20-30secs of idle...

Thats good for the price! In car gauge is always nice for quick visual monitoring of your AFR on boost.

You just need to turn the ignition on and leave it for 30sec to warm up the WBO2 heater... Then start the engine!! lol

Right thanks gents, I'll be getting an MTX then, you can now return to convincing Roger to crack on with his car

Indeed Karlos, would be good to meet up some time!

From memory, although the wb heats up with ignition on, it doesn't heat up fully. So readings are still a bit iffy. Rogers doesn't give useful readings until the engines been on for 20-30 seconds.

That WB looks good, you can pretty much use any setup so long as it has a 0-5V output. AEM, innovate, techedge etc. All should work well.

Rob,
Let me know when you are both about and I'll come down!
My Techedge heats up fully and reads fine after about 1 min with the ignition on, perhaps the heater in the Innovate isnt quite as agressive?
Not much use if it doesnt as cold start mapping will be a right pain! lol
