Replacing the inlet manifold with one from a fiesta ST
Hi there folks. I have been getting a code (forgotten the damn thing though) which I had confirmed by two garages as the inlet manifold. No other codes or info was given by the reader and resetting it would result in the engine management light going off for a short time but then coming back on.
The car judders slightly on idle or early acceleration which fits with the code too, as a result I have been sourcing a low mileage replacement and someone suggested the fiesta ST 150 uses the same model, I ordered a replacement on a low mileage, crashed fiesta and set to work.
First of all it has been a bitch of a job to get off, siezed, rusted and rounded bolts added a good few hours work but other than that I have most things covered and now have the parts side by side.
As I took the old unit off I noticed a small difference and it relates to the butterfly system and (I guess) the vacuum that operates it. On the Fiesta ST version, everything is exactly the same in every way apart from it does not have any butterflys and also the vacuum control part is missing.
Related to this though I have traced the vacuum hoses and the focus has two electrical components on top of the engine that (again I guess) creates the vacuum to operate the butterfly, on the fiesta ST they all go to a single unit that is fitted to the manifold. the same amount of connections are used though.
Before I go ahead and attempt fitting this replacment which I am thinking will actually work as expected anyway, I wanted to get a little guidance about the vacuum system, and if any other error codes are likely to be triggered by using the solution built on to the ST manifold - ie, if I disconnect the vacuum (solenoids perhaps?) on the focus but connect the single one (which does look like a very similar part) on the fiesta one.
If you would like pics or part numbers of either unit please ask.
I was not particularly bothered that the butterflys are not included on the fiesta part as I might tune the focus at some stage and a few others have recommended removing them if they rattle or develop a fault anyway, the fiesta part bypasses this issue.
All help is gratefully received, I am quite keen to get this car back in one piece and running again over the weekend so really want to get cracking.
cheers
