I think the trouble is ford tdci motors weren't the best for reliability with all the pump and injector issues etc folk never got into them the same way they did with the vw tdi models.
The old td could tune quite well but of course not in the same league as the vw stuff.
Merc cdi is a good lump for an rwd ford, strong and reliable too and already rwd.
A lot cheaper than the bm stuff too.

I looked into this the other year, but as said above not many tune the engines.

Ford diesel engines are not very good, hence why nobody retro fits them.

The VW lumps are quality on the other hand...

Fast ford done a Feature in Malta a few Years back, I can remember a Fiesta RST With endura td Engine in, was tuned, big turbo etc.
a lot of the maltese cars featured were diesel due to high petrol prices IIRC

My uncles got a tuned 1.8 tddi lump in a mk4 fiesta.
Hybrid turbo
Front mount
Piper can
Ported head
And modified pump.

Goes really well for what it is.

Yeh i rember that fiesta a green one want it?

With the price you can get tdi mondeos for its worth a go putting the engine in some retro for but like people say there not exactly up there for reliability.

there you go, horrific sound and exhaust gases though, i wouldn't fit one in an old ford.
vw tdi's are where it's at, i would happily fit my bora engine into a ford, it isn;t the quietest engine but takes to tuning well.

A modern Mondeo diesel engine in a 'Tina would be brilliant, it would be like something Ford would have built

RS 5tu tdci engines have a rep four their unreliability (Pump, Injectors... etc)
but the older tddi engines are as tough as old boots.
