Default Timing belt removed, crankshaft pulley at 16

Hi,

wanted to know what happens when the engine is not set at TDC.
Removed the timing belt from the RS Turbo (S2) and the engine was set with the pulley notch at 16 and not TDC (0).

Means this that the ignition was retarded?

Thank you for your help!

Engine has been dismantled and looks very good (just 60.000 km on it), but I will have again
a detailed look on the valves and pistons.

Cam advance means more power low down and less high up, right?

means it will be perky off boost but will cause carnage on boost. such as detonation,(=melted pistons) and valve/piston contact.. id either check the cam profile/spec and be absolutly sure it was timed up right. or play it safe and run it as per factory. and set it up at a tuning centre. how did the car perform before?

please tell me what perky and carnage means, never heard this two words

Engine was running let´s say normal but not powerfull.
Turbo just made 5psi boost.

Except the crank it was timed up correct. All parts (pistons, block, valves,...) look very good.
When the engine will be put together again, it will be adjusted to TDC as it should.
Just wanted to know why the pre owner adjusted the crank to 16 and what is
the difference to the TDC adjustment. Was not sure if there are just changes to the
cam or if also the ignition will be influenced.

is it not possible the belt has been jumping which is why its at 16deg insteast of TDC. by perky i mean responsive. by carnarge i mean serious engine failiure. not good. set it up as per manual and have it checked over
