Std rods are fine mate just get them re bushed(small ends)and mahle pistons with valve pockets are fine too although there is better out there..

If you want something a bit more trick the a set of 136mm long rods(wrc spec) and short skirt pistons are awesome imo..

Cp do the short skirt piston but run a 22 mm pin so bear this in mind if you go this way as you will need the right sized bush in the rod..

The seanz 136mm rod and cosworth short skirt would be the best imo..hth

purely cos they are new or would you just put the originals back in

in the region of 500bhp is the idea one day. basically a good reliable engine is what im after, and so that i dont have to worry about taking the bloody engine out again, for a very long time

they are steel rods std
you got a set of cosworth rods that are good for 700 bhp for free
you will struggle to buy a better rod the same applies to the crank
unless you are changing the bore stroke ratio use your FREE COSWORTH bits

You'd be a brave man to run the, at 700bhp. We just did 635 at 7500 but wouldn't push any harder

why do people think standard cosworth parts are standard like an rs turbo part
They are designed and made by COSWORTH
so what you are about to bin is a set of COSWORTH rods not ford rs turbo cvh 1.4 van rods
THIS YB COSWORTH engine was designed and built by cosworth it is not an evo or subaru or rs turbo
waste some money if you wish

no one said anything about binning anything im basically looking for advice and info on a rebuild. one of my reasons about asking info on pistons and rods is that i want to try and eliminate the bloody piston slap.

Really is quite simple for 500BHP. Standard crank, rod, pistons with vlalve pockets. You dont even need to change exhaust cam which is an error a few people seem to make. I did all the hard work and testing a couple of years ago and even with a older style rs500 cooler i made 480 (411 @the wheels) with a standard ported head. With a spec r i should have seen over 500. Long stud the block and enjoy the performance

I used proper k1000 head bolts on mine. I admit i had NO issues what so ever with the head lifting even when we used 2.9 bar boost on mapping, but if i was to do it again i think i would long stud it yes, but mainly because everyone seems to do it. i would of course follow Marks advice on the matter.
