I'm replacing a front diff on a 2009 Ranger 4x4 at work.

Removed prop, both front knuckles/hubs complete and the complete intermediate shaft/driveshaft on the nearside.

Having problems with the offside driveshaft, it's only meant to be held in with a snap-ring. ETIS procedure advises to use pry bar to pop the shafts out. Spent ages bashing/levering/prying/swearing at it today but it's not budging.

I thought about using the Ford fork tool used on Focus etc that fits through the diff but the Ranger diff pin is too fat for it.

Any ideas?

 

iirc on the older shape ranger there was a tool that fits in somwhere and a slide hammer that screws into the tool and then you bang the slide hammer to pop the shaft out. if that makes sense..

 

Yeah, that's for the little shaft that's inside the ns of the diff.

Ended up taking the diff off complete with the os shaft still in, stripping out the little shaft, then twatted the shaft out from inside the diff. Inner CV was worn and was leaking from the diff seal, so fitting new inner joint once it arrives... £513 + vat for just the inner joint!
