Well on saturday I entered into my first HillClimb event in the 3 Door.
Its the Nat B Licence Speed Championship with rounds at Prescott and MIRA.
You race on just the Saturday with 2 practice runs in the morning and then 2 race runs in the afternoon.
It was savagely wet in the morning and I managed a 61.88 and a 62.30 respectively, luckily it stopped raining at lunch and the track dryed out abit.
Still with the boost turned down as low as it would go I went out and did a 56.30 which I didn't think was too bad just as we started our second run it began to rain again so put in a slower time of 57.43.
I came 4th in the overall standings out of 22 cars as this is handicap championship and my handicap was set at 55.00 seconds nobody beat there handicaps on the day. I recieved a nice little glass trophey.
Here's the videos on my 1st and 2nd race runs:
1st Run 56.30

2nd Run 57.43

Good effort Rich

Must of been fun in the wet
I looked at doing a local event in the Ka(if i ever get it finished
) but due to the slight alteration to the bulkhead I'll be in 'Sports Libre' against single seaters with V8s

Paul Norris runs his Sunbeam in that class for similar reasons - obviously not as competitive but he does compete well

Nearly went to watch but the weather put me off, wish I'd have gone now!
Am I just imagining it or did you bog down a bit out of Pardon?

You require a Helmet to Snell Standard 2000, 2005 or 2010 and Nomex race suit, gloves and boots which conform to FIA standard 8856-2000
Helmet was £150
Suit was £280
Gloves was £50
Boots was £150

There are some really quick cars in Sports Libre a couple of ex Group B Audi SWB's and Mike Mannings crazy 4x4 Cossie Puma

Pop along to Prescott on May 26th it should be a good day with better weather I hope too
Cheers mate i've wanted to do it for ages but now I can afford too

It's a road going class so as long as it would pass an MOT it pretty much fine.
There's a couple of things you need to do;
1. Tow Stickers front and rear pointing to towing points.
2. Earth cable from battery must be yellow (I just covered mine in yellow heat shrink) but yellow tape is also exceptable.
3. Ignition and Fuel cut off must be marked in direction of OFF (on a road going car that means the igniton key, I have a little sticker with an arrow showing which way is off)
4. Noise limit is 105dB (Which is crackers loud, haven't seen anyone fail)
5. Usual safety stuff is checked like seat belts work, seats are secure and bolted down safely, tyres are legal depth and in good condition, generally in good condition all round.
It's still quite scary as the scruitineer goes round your car they do give it a good look over.

Good on you mate, and pleased to see more people trying sprinting/speed championships.
We were at Aintree on saturday with the sunbeam actually, finished 3rd in sports libre out of about 10 cars so not a bad result for us. On a better note though we had the fastest trap speed in sports libre and 2nd fastest of the day out of 120 cars beaten only by a F1 powered Gould racing car! (We managed 158mph trap speed!!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ox_LyuZqIw
And lastly not our car, but good in car footage of the circuit.

Hi Richie,
Great footage of both you & the Cossie.............I usually go to my local Hillclimb event each year (Barbon) to watch (as long as I'm not away working) and still haven't seen a Sierra in any form compete.
So, just wanted to say your not only having fun and competing but doing everyone a service as we just don't get to see these cars enough.
Hope you carry on with the Hillclimbs and may be some Sprint events ?
If you're ever decide to compete up this end of the country do give me a shout as we can always put you up for the night to cut down on those costs.
Best of Luck Mate and keep enjoying.

I really want to get into single seaters at some point but that's some way off yet.

Got the results table through this morning and had a pleasant surprise, as we completed on just the Saturday with got at least 1 run in, in the dry where as everyone else who did there race runs the Sunday had seriously wet runs.
So the top fastest six guys including me (6th) are leading the Prescott Gold Cup which is usually reserved for the top single seater boys

It's not hard but the initial outlay for some of your gear and membership can add up.
Firstly you'll need a competition licence you can apply for a Nat B Licence on the MSA website and you can do it online and it'll cost you £38.
Then you need to join a Club I chose the BOC Bugatti Owners Club as there Hill Prescott Speed HillClimb is pretty local to me and they do a dedicated Nat B Championship which costs £65 yearly
To enter the Championship is a one off payment of £25 to register but this will vary from Championship to Championship
The you'll need all your race clothing this can be the expensive bit;
You require a Helmet to Snell Standard 2000, 2005 or 2010 and Nomex race suit, gloves and boots which conform to FIA standard 8856-2000
I bought mine at the beginning of the year my Helmet is a Blackcat and the rest of the clothing was Sparco, the general consensus when buying safety clothing get the best you can afford. I'd have to agree but the chance of being trapped in a Tin Top on fire is very remote compare to a Single Seater.
This how much I spend:
Helmet £150
Suit £280
Gloves £50
Boots £150
Each event at Prescott costs £97 and £105 at MIRA to enter but this will vary depend on where you compete and will be cheaper if you are a member at different courses you can me a member of as many as you like and it does reduce entrance fee's so can work out cheaper in the long run.
And that's pretty much it you'll have to make sure the car you enter conforms to the class you are entered in and meets the requirements in the MSA Blue Book which you will recieved with your racing licence.
Anything else just ask but i'm very new to this myself.
