It's not hard but the initial outlay for some of your gear and membership can add up.
Firstly you'll need a competition licence you can apply for a Nat B Licence on the MSA website and you can do it online and it'll cost you £38.
Then you need to join a Club I chose the BOC Bugatti Owners Club as there Hill Prescott Speed HillClimb is pretty local to me and they do a dedicated Nat B Championship which costs £65 yearly
To enter the Championship is a one off payment of £25 to register but this will vary from Championship to Championship
The you'll need all your race clothing this can be the expensive bit;
You require a Helmet to Snell Standard 2000, 2005 or 2010 and Nomex race suit, gloves and boots which conform to FIA standard 8856-2000
I bought mine at the beginning of the year my Helmet is a Blackcat and the rest of the clothing was Sparco, the general consensus when buying safety clothing get the best you can afford. I'd have to agree but the chance of being trapped in a Tin Top on fire is very remote compare to a Single Seater.
This how much I spend:
Helmet £150
Suit £280
Gloves £50
Boots £150
Each event at Prescott costs £97 and £105 at MIRA to enter but this will vary depend on where you compete and will be cheaper if you are a member at different courses you can me a member of as many as you like and it does reduce entrance fee's so can work out cheaper in the long run.
And that's pretty much it you'll have to make sure the car you enter conforms to the class you are entered in and meets the requirements in the MSA Blue Book which you will recieved with your racing licence.
Anything else just ask but i'm very new to this myself.
