Default Volvo 850 coil in Sierra

Hi

Do you think i can temporary replace the igniton coil in Ford Sierra 1991 DOHC with one from a Volvo 850. Need troubleshooting

850 only came with 5 cylinders. The middle number of the old Volvo'swould indicate the amount of cylinders. I.e. 740 and 760 were the same cars but with different engines.

You should be able to test with any coil of correct voltage to prove if there is any issues with the old one, but some will give a higher voltage than others

It should work, the output can vary, so long as it is only a temporary measure you should be ok I should think?

The only difference with coils is some cars have 'ballest ignition systems', this is where the loom has a resistor built in which reduces the power to 9V which the coil uses opposed to 12V, so you have 'ballest' and 'non ballest' coil's respectively.
