Hey all, I took my engine out a couple months ago to clean it up and give it some new gaskets.
Decided I'm going to buy a few new bits for it, well everything apart from the head & block.

Question is, now that i've got a totally bare block, could a bath it in some bleach for a couple weeks whilst I'm away?
Would it damage the block?

I was planning on doing the same with the hear, just depends if i have time to strip it before i leave.

why would you want to put it in bleach

 

Any decent engine machine shop will have a caustic cleaner or similar that they can dip it in.

Failing that, there do seem to be some products that remove rust from metal over time.

Vinegar, coke, molasses, various mild acids ( ie as found in vinegar, coke and similar food products ) Just search youtube for rust removal.

 

I want it to soak for a couple weeks whilst i'm away so when i'm back, i've got a nice clean block & head for when i build it back up.

Just thought that diluted bleach would shift all the surface rust & crap off it.

I'll youtube it, see what I can find.
