Default Vibra Technics Cradle mounts 'road' or 'competition'?

As above, recently killed the cradle mounts on my mk4 and looking to replace now.
Seems the vibra technics mounts are the only upgrade available? but i'm not sure which to go for; road or competition?
Anyone experienced both and can advise?

there not shit, the compound is alot harder than standerd mounts to take higher bhp and torque figures. a downside to this is that you feel the vibrations of the engine through the car more but they do make a big difference.

i have a escort mk5 mtx75 gearbox mount available for sale brand new if you check the sales forum

If not flo-flex do replacements, made from poly urethane... The way they are designed they cannot break as they have a seperate bolt right through them, with isolating washers either side.
Ive run them for over 5years and 60,000miles from using the car as a daily, thru several track days and now 5-6k with the turbo engine in, not a single issue. No vibrations and yet the engine is unmovable in the bay, you can feel the car move when you touch the throttle rather than the engine rocking on the mounts.

I 'think' i have the road mounts, but they could be the comp ones... I seem to remember them costing £100 for the pair. They seem a good improvement over standard, more vibration in the car for sure but far less engine movement. I remember mine on the dyno with standard mounts, the engine must have moved by a good inch when on boost!

They sound like a good option Rog! I've always stayed stock because I dont want any vibrations, maybe I'll get a set.

Dave, do you know if you have comp or road.

I'm not worried about 'road comfort' as it never sees it anymore. I'm just interested in a solid setup for the strip really.

Just to point out CVH diesel mounts are no stronger, the 1.6D produced sweet FA torque and power! lol

There seems to be a myth that the diesel boxes and mounts are stronger.

Hmmm...I was going to give them a try but have just spoke to flo flex and they discontinued the cradle mounts about 4 years ago

Yeah Ford must of really over estimated what sort of power the old CVH diesel was going to put out to have gone ahead and designed stronger gearbox's and mounts for them......... hahahaha

Well lets face it, any cvh with a turbo on is at least 200bhp isnt it
Be interesting to know why flo-flex stopped the mounts. Must be another company avail that can do them.

Bought some 2nd hand ones for the gearbox and there is no identification markings, codes numbers or what ever, just the generic sticker, so wouldn't be surprised if road and competition are exactly the same

I went a bit bananas on mine and put fast-road vibra-technics on both the gearbox, and the inner wing. Probably overkill but I hated my engine jumping about on the old mounts.

Now there is no engine slop at all and you can really bang through the gears. The car moves when you rev it. Goes well with the on/off nature of the paddle.

Gets a bit annoying if you chucked some coins into any of the tray compartments but in truth it only rattles the car at idle, and you don't hear it after that, I'm very happy with them.

Marc D - thats a good point, saves the exhaust with harder engine/gearbox mounts as it dont strain it so much!

One of the best mods i did to my old escort, the difference is unreal. Had the competition mounts and would easily buiy them again as im not too worried about the vibration. Worked very well with the paddle clutch aswell.

Deffo fitting a set to my latest creation as the engine rocks like mad at the moment but im fitting mk3 arb so need the mk3 mounts this time.

Deffo worth it mate ive seen you repping poddington a few times now.

What sort of spec is your car it looks very nice indeed

I bort a set off a guy on here and tbh I cant fault em! As has been said, they vibrate a bit at idle (enuff to shake my steering wheel lol) but after that they are fine. My engine used to move about 2inches with standard mk3 fiesta 16v mounts and snap the exhaust at will, not any more. Not sure if I got fast-road or comp mind, but i like em whatever they are

I ended up buying a full set of fast roads from rapid ford. They weren't keen on selling me the comps as they reckoned they were so hard I'd hate it and moan! I wouldn't! Anyway I fitted these a couple of weeks ago and ran the car last weekend at classic ford and they seems fine. It was hard to tell the difference they made and fitted poly windows all round about the same time so you now here EVERYTHING lol
I'd say a good mod, at least you know the mounts shouldn't be a weak link when pressing on!

Beach, was that for me re spec?

Yeah just wondered mate, seen it a few times now pal love the look of it!! Me and my mate were hiding under the bit you drove through after returning from the strip. Looks a good bit of kit what sort of power is she running ?

Cant wait to get my management swapped either with having no sunroof i could be tempted with a carbon roof

Sounds a bit dodgy that mate, didn't you have tickets!?

Glad you like it
The car is 1.6 cvh 7.8:1cr, balance bottom end consisting of pec rods, wossner pistons. newmans cam, stage 3 T3 turbo, efi on standalone mgt, siemen 60lb 630cc injectors mapped by mark shead of MA Developments to approximately 1.6 bar about 24psi.
Cam still needs dialing in to make the most of it but it goes pretty well now.
No idea on power, will find out when the cam is done I guess
