Default So, this escort wants a fight eh?

Headgasket went on my RS the day after buying it. Since then, its been a field of fuck ups.

Its all back together as it should be now. Had it running last week but didnt take it out due to Battery draining. This issue has been located and sorted. Went to take her out........... NOPE.

Refused to start. Fuel pump wasnt priming. So, messed around with pink relay, and she fired up. Great stuff. Needed some fiddling with idle screw to get it right.

Took her out for a run round the block. In dire need of a set up, but I was so glad she was running. Parked her up on the driveway, left it 5 mins and started it again. Fired up first time. Awesome. No hot start issues

The lad comes home from his mates and wants me to take him for a spin in it so I agree. Keys in, pump primes......... turn turn turn. Nothing. Refusing to start again.

My lord, this car has PMT I am sure of it. So, before I took an axe to every panel, I walked away and had a beer. This morning, still refusing to start, no matter what I did. Idle screw up and down, cold start on or off. Got annoyed.

So, I have just purchased AA homestart, roadside recovery to a garage of my choice etc. It WILL be taken to a garage and sorted there because I am at the end of my tether with it now

Why the fuck did I sell a mega reliable Clio 172 for this piece of old shit with a bad attitude

Its not even fun anymore. I have owned the car for two months and driven it once. Its really starting to annoy me now.

Even considered just breaking it

Im afraid thats the case with most of them!
Remember they are 20+ years old and most have had a very hard life!
Once you have all the problems sorted then you'll love it!
Just grin and bare it, sort all the issues out and with good maintenance it'll all be good!!

My 172 only ever let me down once. A failed injector. Fixed that within 20mins and all was well, ha ha.

I am sure once the yurbo is up and running it will be OK, just losing faith at the moment

once setup and the tired management is replaced there fairly reliable. regular plug/oil filter changes and sensible warm up period before giving it death should see some trouble free miles. half the battle is sifting through previous bodges. its a lengthy proccess but worth it in the end.

if you have an amal valve, a good idea is to fit a switch in line so that you have 2 stage boost control. off will be whatever your actuator is set at (for low boost say 8psi) and on (amal active) will be whatever your amal is set to run, depending on jet/nylon insert. have the fuelling set up on the basis of the amal been on/the higher boost level of the 2 available. it costs about a fiver and is piss easy to fit.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the memories!!!!

I used to love the fact my RST's never started. Right up until I stopped buying the stupid fucking things

One of my favourite EVO quirks is it's ability to start. With the key..... In the morning!

Depends how early really mate. i've no reason to be early really to be honest so i'll probably set off around 7-7.30 and have a steadyish run down. A mate is taking his FRST and it's not been out for a while so it could end in a breakdown

Ok cool well no worries either way , i'll find out when they'll meeting and let you know . Im not keen on setting off at 5 to meet them at 6 like ford fair anyway If its too early i'l just meet you somewhere and cruise down steady

Driving down with some other cars is always more fun though
