Question MK3 Cortina Help/Advice Needed for Total Newby

Hi guys,
I’m very new to this site and also very new to car restoration and modification. When I say new I mean I’m a Total Fish as the name indicates. My goal is to restore/modify a Mk3 Cortina, my question to you guys is what engine can I replace the existing with? In fairness I’m yet to buy the car but I’m on with this as we speak. The engine is probably the only part of the car that I would want to replace and the rest of the car would be a restoration job. But I would want a reasonably powerful engine (beefy) and I’m just after options?? oh and if possible I dont want to have to make major ajustments to the housing of the engine???
Do any of you experienced lot have any advice or reading material/web pages you can advise me of??
Alternatively do any of you know of any engine recommendations???
And finally please bear in mind that I’m a total newby to all of this and I intend to learn as I work and that I have no deadlines and can take my time as I learn and probably make mistakes.!!!!
Cheers guys thanks for any advice you might have.
P.S dont hate me
