Default Did Ford do a single DIN CD player?

I am looking to put a stereo in my RS Turbo as the pioneer heap of shit that was in it was causing my battery to drain.

Now, I was hoping they made a standard din sized one, but cannot seem to find anything on ebay. I want it for the factory look more than anything, but I dont want a period tape deck. All I seem to be able to find are 1.5 or double din units.

I am actually now considering putting my gauges in the din slot for the radio, and fabricating a housing for a double din unit in the centre console part for something like this

What do you guys think??

Have you thought of having a aux input added to your stereo then using an iPod, as can be hidden away and removed easily, also no CDs hanging around, I use a cheap tape converter to plug my iPod in but there are better ways of doing it,

I just want a standard looking ford number, none of this pioneer malarky. Its not like I will be pumping the beats out as I will be listening to the engine, lol

yes I agree, but I have seen a company that adds a 3.5mm aux in jack to any old car radios or stereos and then you can plug in any mp3 player of your choice, then just unplug it when you finished. I just took even cheaper option and fitted a cassette to 3.5mm jack adaptor so I plug my ipod in while driving then just drop it in glovebox when finished and it all remains stock.

My Mum's Orion had a CD changer and a cassette up front? It was MK5 escort shape though.

I looked into this for my cossie, Ford did 2 single din CD players, the FX3000 which was offered as a dealer fit option on early 90s Fords:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-FX-30...item27c52e8c3c

And the 6500 as fitted to Ford Rangers and transits with the semi auto transmission:
