duratec H.E best engine?
hi all, ive been looking into all the options on the best engine to tune and to turbo, as the focus rs engine is not a full duratec but a late zetec engine, acordine to the duratec performance site the H.E is the best engine and full alloy and found in the latest mondeo, what do peeps think
thanks

I think it's because the HE is designed to be so efficient there is less margin for improvement so to speak with out major changes to internal components ie pistons/crank etc, so to turbo it and get big-ish power is way beyond what it was designed for, and seeing as it was designed and produced so efficiently it would take significant changes to both components AND production it would render it economically unviable.
I dont think anyone can accuse Ford of doing the original FRS 'On the cheap' as it cost the Ł27000 to produce each car and sold each and every one of them at a significant loss, hence why they would be reluctant to produce a car that was so far removed from its general production line in the future.
Essentially the same problem AVO and Boreham have faced in the past. Specialist production facilities that are labour intensive and geographically and conceptually so far removed from the 'standard' production line just dont make economic sense. It's not necessarily about making the best car, its about making money at the end of the day.

that's be a 2.0. I think. not 100%.
I definitley know of a place that'll hand you back a NA Duratec HE on throttle bodies for a few grand. (not mega money)
Mountune will do you a 2.0 to 280bhp if you have the cash
If you turbo them very high power outputs are possible, as has been shown in the US.
Apparently the HE has an almost ideal bore/stroke for a performance engine... or so I've been told.

You cant find a Duratec in ANY (standard) focus in the UK yet, it will be in the mark 2 when it comes out!, it is in the Mondeo and in the later rangers. The duratecs have been in the US focus's for a few years now.
As said the RS and ST's foci's arent duratecs just been badged as one! damn fords
Supposdly they are the new engine to tune, but time will tell
