Default Turbo elbow and pipes

Good evening

Is there anywhere that sells the turbo water pipes? Both of mine ate FOOKED so some new ones are required..

Anyone happen to have a turbo elbow with a non sticky waste gate as well?

Thanks Lewis

Are you hell bent on keeping the turbo water cooled? My S2 and escort track car both run with no water running through the turbo. They do seem to crop up now and again on ebay but ain't cheap!

I think I have an elbow in the garage, I'll take a look tomorrow mate

The buggers were like 60 quid each from Ford when i looked at buying new ones for my old car. I made some myself and brazed some pipe into them. There a funny size aswell not a standard size banjo

Them ones at 60 on flee bay are about right for price,

Other option is to cut the pipes off and weld/braze a -6 fitting onto them and run a goodridge type hose.

You can pick the cossy ones up for much cheaper and there stainless too, doesnt make any sense what so ever

Can you safely run them not water cooled? It doesn't shorten the life of the turbo or anything? What is the safest way to take the water cooling out?

Thanks

its perfectly safe no bypass the w/cooling on the turbo. many people do it in an attempt help with heating issues, the theory been heat from the turbo is passed around the cooling system. the s1 had no water cooling anyway.

just stick a 13mm bolt in either end of the rubber hoses and a jubilee clip on them

I think the water cooling it to extend the life of the turbo, imo ford wouldnt have introduced it onto the S2 if there was no advantage... The water cooling helps cool the turbo core, saves you having to run the car for 5-10mins after use to let the core cool.

I don't run water cooling as I believe that it was added for the S2 for the numptys who boot it then turn up somewhere and switch the car straight off.

Ford were probably trying to make the S2 more of an "everyday" car rather than the homologation style of the S1, as water sitting in the turbo when you turn off the ignition absorbs a lot of the leftover heat.

I think careful ownership shouldn't see any ill effects from not using the water cooling.

The series 1 ones were oil cooled and oil lubed. If u run it with no cooling what so ever it won't help its lifespan.

If you want to do it properly u would need the s1 bearing core.

NMS make there own stainless replacement pipes and Karl has just good me they are going to make a load up to sell.

Even with water cooled turbos its still advisable to leave it running to aid cooling after hard driving. I'm plumbing mine into the thermostat housing and using a -6 jic fitting to feed the turbo

I don't think it makes the car run that much hotter if im honest

So is that true about running turbo with no water. Into it would it be better to join the two waterhoses together with a joiner? What do u do with the water feeds on the turbo just leave the pipes open?

I let mine run until it cools before turning it off, luckily ive got a 3-4mile stretch of 30mph road to get to my house, gives it a nice 5-10mins to cool down! It makes little or no diff to the overall coolant temp ime and as gadget says the cores are different too so the s2 core won't be cooled by anything other than the oil thats lubing it.
If you are fussed about the hot water from the turbo heating up the engine, fit a turbo cooler rad...
