Default Would you buy a Harley????

Now bikes scare me to death, and I've witnessed a death from one and we have a close friend who lost her husband coz someone pulled out in front of him when he was on his bike.

However, I drive past a Harley garage everyday and I think they are fucking cool. I know it isn't any safer than any other bike, but its not the sort of bike that makes you want to thrash it every where. Its more for looking cool and cruising.

Shame they are so expensive though. But it would be cool for a summer toy.

No, fookin tractors

I'd rather have a bike that goes, stops and handles properly please

If someone put a gun to my head I might ride a street rod but generally Harleys are shit

And they aren't that expensive, you can have a 883 sportster for 5 grand new

But you dont look cool on a Harley on England. You look like a tit.

Dont buy a bike to look cool, go and buy a Porsche Speedster to look cool.

if getting a cruiser i would get a kwak vn2000 or a triumph rocket III, my friend has buell and he has had a few problems with it, i'd question harleys reliability on par with ducati.

Markk, you must have had a bad time with your last Harley or you wouldn't say they were shit and fook up constantly, which Harley did you have then ? because if you haven't had one you would look stupid for saying that !

oh quite contrare my friend , ive never owned one nor would i ever , but i do infact have a lot of frieinds who are indeed harley enthusiasts witha local club , and i very much so do enjoy taking the piss ( and often) about there unreliability , but as for not owning one , i dont need to own one to know they look shit , and having these friends have had the misfortune to have riden one or two - NEVER AGAIN !!

its a bit like scooters ( i mean the original scooters ) supposed to be an icon and all that , what a laugh , there a fookin death trap to ride , modern motorcylcling has come along way , unfortunatley , some manufacturers got a little left behind , namely harley !!

Is that your SB6R in your sig Matt?

Awsome bikes (if a little uncomfortable and a what a stupid place to put the batteries )

A Gixer 11 motor in a chassis that actually goes round corners

Yea, not at the moment tho.

Rode a SB6R once at the dealers I used to spanner at.

Jap running gear with Italian style and just enough annoying quirks (one piece fairing & seat/tank cover ) to retain that italian 'character'

Was a great toy!

I might pick up a cheap blade for this year if I can spare the cash but next year I'm deffo getting a brand new R1/ZX10R or GSXR1000

I need to get back to two wheel asap

The cossie's been fun but it can't quite generate the same adrenalin rush!

Markk, how can you say a Harley is unreliable if you have no experience of them, I have a lot of experience of them, they are very reliable, just like any modern bike, you are just making yourself look even more stupid.

Modern Harleys arn't that bad, still no where near as reliable as the jap bikes especially on the electrical side but the build quality and reliability are pretty good these days.

That don't stop them being antiquated, over-weight pieces of shit ridden by poseurs though

I really don't see what the fuss is about, Harley's are bikes geared toward crusing. Jap bikes are made for speed, how can anyone even compare the two?? that's just being stupid!! I mean If I posted I wanted to get a Hummer, and people writing back, NO mate, get yourself a Honda S2000 or an Evo...
I like both types, Japs and Harleys. Don't see where Peeps getting the unreliable part??Maybe the old ones, yeah like the 49' Pan heads..LOL My uncle has 2 as far as I know the only times he takes it into the shop is to get maintenance work.
Fact is, a Jap bike 10 yrs down the road will be worth a fish and chips dinner, a Harley holds it's value.

Oh, GurnE..885 are the girl harleys..

I'm actually more into custom Harleys though.

Yes, because the japanese are continually pushing the boundries of sportsbikes, updating, improving year after year so once a bike is ten years old, whilst it's still an awsome machine by it's own merits it is, by comparison, dated and out classed.

In contrast Hardly Driveable has been churning out the same old crap since the year dot so no matter what year you buy, it's the same old shit

No interest in bikes, and no knowledge of them.

Harley has a historied name - but personally I consider them like SUV's and other vehicles from North America that handle ... lets say less than we would like

I had a 1600cc fuel injected harley as a hire bike when i was over in the states, and one day i did 580 miles on it, try that on a fireblade and then say you cant see the point in a harley.

If you applied the same logic to cars we would all drive westfields and caterhams, but the truth is that i dont want to do 1000 miles a week in a wesfield like i do at the moment sat in my leather seated airconitioned alfa romeo.

A mate of mine in the states has a 2 litre turbo'd harley, its got 300lbft and well over 200bhp, and its quicker than a busa in a straight line, but obviously on the corners he would get his arse kicked if american roads actually had any corners, but they dont generally on yank roads so its irrelevant really.

Id never own a harley in the uk, too big, too cumbersome and not chuckable enouh for a b road, so i prefer stuff like my old vfr honda, or a fireblade, but if i lived in the states i would defiantely have a harley instead.

For stuff like cruising down from miami to key west, which is what i was using it for, a blade just wouldnt get the job done as well as the harley does.

Oh the other thing that people dont realise generally when they are chatting about harleys, simply cause they have never tried it, is how well a harley will take a long sweeping bend, the engine is right down on the floor, and the seat is pretty low too, so they have a very low centre of gravity, and although they dont like being chucked from one side to the other through chicanes and stuff, if you actually go into a 100mph+ sweeping bend on one you'd be amazed how well it actually copes with it compared to a sports bike, there really isnt a lot in it at all on some corners if you are enough of a hero on the harley to try it, although im not for one minute arguing it would be a competitor for an R1 through the twisty b roads we have over here.

Ive only ridden a Harley once. A mate is a photographer and had borrowed it for a prop, but needed to get it to the shoot.
Its not a totally bad experience but nothing like riding a normal bike.
Fairly well planted on the road (prob down to the weight) but wobbly on the corners and vibrates like a jack hammer.
Something old school diesel about the whole thing!
Felt like a proper twat riding it though - in modern leathers and a full face lid!

So NO! I wouldnt buy one!!!!!
