Default What brake kit for 16 inch wheels?

Hi All,

I see most companies do 325mm and 330mm brakes kits to fit behind 17's, but nothing smaller (that I have seen) for my 2wd Sapphire.

Does anybody know of any brake kits using 305 or 310mm discs?

Your thoughts would be much appreciated

Thanks

Weeksy

Compbrake do 300mm, but not sure how good they are, I'm looking at the 330mm

Sorry the 300mm I saw were for Rear kits

well how are you at making a simple bracket?
with a bit of time you can fit focus rs mk1 discs (324mm) and callipers under 16's but are tight.
i did just that on my xr2, surely it can be done with others, but does depend on the wheels of choice.
off the shelf will be smaller as listed above.

I wouldnt trust myself to make a bracket for brakes!

Will 324mm and the RS brembos really fit?

I am not sure how meaty the Revos are to give clearance on these...

A have a spare wheel, so may be worth getting a spare hub and having an engineering firm knock some up?

you can get brackets off ebay IIRC, yes they will fit, mine are close to the wheels though, the weights were the biggest issue, had to grind the callipers down a little.
but how else could you get brembos and 324mm discs with pads for less than Ł250

XR2wishy - im loving the brembos under the 16s... My 300mm mondeo/st170 combo fills mine pretty well or so i thought, gonna look for brembos and 324mm discs next!
Where did you get the brackets? Or can you remember sizes etc?

i made the brackets from 10mm steel, fitted with M12 high tensile bolts. not that difficult as i made the first template from 3mm steel as it's easier to shape over the 10mm.
only needed minor adjustment on the car, work very well indeed, especially at high speed, car just seems to halt rather than pitch.

Just use some 10mm MDF as a template. Easy cut and shaped

Right, I have the calipers now, but will the bloody things firt inside my Revos...

Time will tell!

If you boys are running 330mm AP kits behind your 16 inch comps, surely I have half a chance?!

Or are the APs quite slim compared to these chunky looking brembo badboys?! On that note, anybody got a pic of them together!?

Thanks for the info XR2Wishy.

I dont think its the offset , just the thickness of the steel he used to space the calipers out from the original caliper hub mounts..

on my xr2 the offset difference was only 2mm if i remember correctly.
the 10mm steel was to make sure they didn't bend at all.
best thing to do is get a disk and calliper and see if the discs centres on the wheel and calliper fits round the edge, i did have to grind a little material off the calliper though and i was already using 5mm spacers too.

Is there any way that 330 mm discs and for example AP 4-piston brake kits would fit inside any 16'' wheel on 4wd Sierra Cosworth? I have 3-piece split rims (Compomotive CXN) 16x9 with low ET, 17 if I remember correctly. Inner diameter of rims is around 398 mm so are there any 16'' wheels out there that could house big brake kit or is 17'' wheel the only choice?
