Default electric cars? whats your thoughts?

personally im not into it one bit.

something came up on the radio the other day say that "enviromental-green groups" are complaining that the government are doing enough to "make" people drive electric cars.

if the government want everyone to go more green and use electric cars, give us them for free then?!

i think with the whole fuel situation right now even if everyone started using electric cars, surely electric bills would just fly up to compensate for lack of petrol or diesel tax the government would normally get?

regardless,

il stick with me st24 and xr4x4 thanks

your thoughts?

2 big problems in my opinion
They cannot be used on longer journeys without over night stops for charging
The electricity we charge them with is produced from fossil fuels anyway

So what's the point

I have very little respect for electric cars think there pretty dangerous for pedestrians how would a 90yr old hear one coming. That's my excuse for hating them anyway.

i justed watched a documentry called "what killed the electric car" makes for some very interesting viewing, turns out gm brought out a very good electric car but were constantly holding back with it (using lower spec batteries etc) then when california lifted their eco laws they recalled ALL of the cars to be crushed despite massive demand for them.

apparently with todays technology its possible to get over 300mile range on a single charge. but that spells bad news of oil companies and govenments etc

suprisingly the hydregen fuel cell is far from ready

Can't beat the sound of a nicely fettled petrol motor. I would rather fucking walk that use an Electroic car. Mind you I would rather drive an electric car than the shitbox Corsa D I've currently got for work

Undeniably queer.

There's plenty of life in the petrol engine, as Ford have proved with the new 3 cylinder engine!

I'd have one for just pottering around town. I also like that Fisker that was on top gear. But they can never replace traditional engines, only Hydrogen can do that.

i think electric cars are one of the best things out atm, means more petrol being saved for us petrolheads therefore petrol will be around for more years yet, dont know the status on whether it will ever dissapear or whatever but electric cars will surely help prolong petrol existing, theres millions of idiots who arent interested in cars anyway and drive like idiots who mayaswel stick to driving an electric car to and from work thats simple rather then a petrol one that they forget to check the oil levels etc yea they prob drive like crap etc but so long as there some manufacturers making petrol only cars and not hybrids then i think everyone will be happy, but for the regular to and from work person who cares nothing about how a car drives etc i think its ideal being that theres millions of them, oeverall im 100% for electric cars, 100% against petrol cars dissapearing completely though not that ive ever bought a brand new car...........

i ve just been on a nissan leaf coarse and they were saying that they get bad press ,people buy them for the wrong reasons ie trend or something there is no point buying one and doing say 2 miles a day as you won't make the saving on fuel,on the other hand don't expect to do 150miles with a car that has a range of 109,you need to do about 60 miles a day to make them worth while
and for people who say about the power station polution they argument is it's better to have polution from a power station thats monitored 24/7 than some bloke whos car passes a mot emisions test and a day later starts running rich then carries on driving it for another year untill it's picked up
iam not a massive fan but can see their point, can't beat an exhaust note tho
