Yeah I use to have one. It done exactly what it said on the tin. Only thing that I spent money on was oil and filters

cheers for the comments lads, good to know

as for the L200, my father in law has one, single cab on an R reg. he has had it since new. all thats ever gone wrong with that is a leaf spring broke, and the rad leaked.

so not that unreliable lol. he did say that before he got the L200 he had a ranger, and the engine mount broke after 18 months so he got shot of it and wont have another lol. ive borrwed it a few times and its been good for whats required.

i quite fancy a ranger double cab myself, but i doubt anyone will want to swap my puma for one lol

i did say about a tranny tipper, but its too big for what he wants/space hes got to keep one

i reckon the double cab will be good enough for whats he wants but i cant convince him. nothing to do with the fact that in a few months it wont see much use and ill be borrowing it for a good while lol

I'd rather a proper one if i was going to be spending cash.Don't see the point in having a 2wd pick up of that sort.If you know what i mean.

I'd be looking more at this kind of Ranger

did you not see the bit about him not wanting a crew cab, and specifically wants a single cab lol

crew cabs are everywhere and very easy to come by, single cabs however - are not

I've had 4 Mazda b2000's and apart from my latest one they've all had standard running gear and I've never had anything break or let me down. A mate of mine has just bought a 2001 double cab 2wd ranger for a project which has done 240,000 miles and still pulls like a train.

My latest , no longer has the über reliable Mazda engine , instead it has a crap fragile rover v8 .

On the reliability side of things,we had a Ranger at work for about a year on a windfarm job,it took a lot of abuse and the only bother it gave was a rear leaf spring.

The L200 however wasn't so good,it was in the local garage most weeks with various different issues, driveshafts and springs being it's favourites.

We also had 3 Toyota Hilux in our little fleet and they were good reliable tools, don't remember having any issues with them

The ford rangers we have at work are double cabs but in 2wd they do go sideways , quick enough with no trailer, not to bad with one on, seem reliable enough. Think it's called areo man the tops work have on them - there wank!!

Stay well clear of the L200 ,especially about pre 2008. If you google engine problems you will see why. Had a mare with mine ,cost me a few grand and was never right so got shut.

Rangers a cracking little truck,I know the 4x4 versions are dismal on fuel though but doubt that's such an issue in the 2wd.

well, we wnt to have a look at the one i posted above and not long back from a 200 mile round trip lol

got there and the sales guy spoke to us briefly and then went off so we could look around it. was me, dad and my uncle.

they liked what they seen although one of the rear tyres was on the limit and the other wasnt that far off so my uncle took it for a test drive. not sure if its just because its been laid up for a while but he said it felt a bit sluggish to start with and jerky and that the clutch was biting right at the top of the pedal.

i looked and it seemed to have a hydraulic clutch - can these be adjusted?

anyway, it came to the crunch and upon trying to negotiate a deal, it was 4k +VAT, so Ł4800 all in...

the salesman then turned into a bit of a twat and wouldnt take any money off for the few issues they found etc, and had another ranger in the yard so was trying to get his skivvy to take a wheel off that one, and fit it this truck... but the wheels were all rusty etc ont he other one, and not clean silver like the one we were looking at - so that wasnt going to happen!

anyway the guy says hes not going to move ont he price so we head off back to the car when he shouts what were they going to offer out of nterest, my uncle says Ł4300 all in, the guy say, yeah plus the VAT. err no lol

got back to the car and dad/uncle discuss it a bit as they are going in halves on it and decide to make one final offer of Ł4500. the guy wont go lower than Ł4560 and they all agree on that price.

so dad and uncle go off to the office and ten minutes later come back out not looking happy. the salesman had then told them they were to pay the Ł77 or whatever that was left for the tax disc (taxed and mot'd till june)

it was at that point they both told him to fuck off and we left

all the cars in the yard were not that great tbh, all scuffed/small dents etc so i dont think we will ever be going back there to look at anything else, but while my uncle was on the test drive i went in for a piss, and there tucked int he corner was a white 3dr lol

i had a little nosy, other than some ghay racing pedals it looked pretty standard and had 53k iirc on the clock. didnt look 'that' clean, well not compared to something like rsmats anyway.

the guy said it was his business partners and hes owned it for about 20 years, and its not been used for 3 years or something.

he also said that they will never sell it, and ford have tried to buy it off them for Ł80k as it was one of the last ones made...

it was after that comment that i thought he was a tosser

oh well, onto the next one eh!

oh yeah and while i was sat in dads car when they were bartering over the price, the skivvy was trying to start a shogun....

he unleashed half a can of easystart into the air intake, and had 2 battery booster packs on it, but thing would still barly turn over...

i lol'd as i could tell he was getting a bit pissed off with it

nice one matt, cheers mate

oh with regard to the clutch thing, he started going on about how he was a fully trained mechanic and knew there was nothing wrong with it and that you can adjust the cable on them.

till i said its a hydraulic clutch lol, he didnt like that and said you can adjust the pedal... you might be able to on them, but i dont know that bit lol

The rangers are mega common for doing big ends and cracking heads coz the piston hits the head when the big end gets slightly worn also the gearbox gets to much play in the main shaft and dicks the symcros and 5th gear hub all these are mega expensive I know this as I have a customers in millions of pieces needing a crank, rod, head and gear box !!

Dad phoned last night as he was going to go up to bedford to look at a couple and rang up about one that had 66k on it, only to be told veiwing was by appointment only and they had to give 24 hours notice so couldnt have gone till today and my uncle wasnt around today so they went off to look at one in bagshot id found them, but it had 117k on it and was about 2k - initially they had discounted it as they wanted as low miles as poss but i said as long as its been serviced regular then it should be fine...

anyhow they went off, liked it and bought it....

so there we go, ill now have use of a pickup when i need it lol

cheers for the help/info lads

Never let mileage put you off in these situations, quite often you'll find the expensive jobs are sorted!!!
And as it's only a pick up it's gonna get a bit battered anyway so if it's not an oil painting but presentable who cares at that price???
