Default omex 600 or megasquirt?

hi everybody i know this questions prob been asked but im ready to upgrade from OFAB.
just managed to get a hold of some green 803s , now i just need to know what ecu setup?
got forged pistons and steel rods etc and want less lag, more boost, more boost control etc
just not sure which road to go down now lol, need everybodys experiance and which is better for money as omex is twice the price of megasquirt?

cheers guys

Either is an acceptable solution if properly mapped.

Just make sure the megasquirt is properly assembled, there are still some nasty home built examples kicking around secondhand etc.

efiextra or you can get OFAM which is handy if you have a OFAB setup because it plugs in

Cheers for the links guys,

My honest advice (if you aren't mapping this your self) would be to go with what ever your tuner prefers. If they are happy with megasquirt then great, if not then go Omex.

In certain respects megasquirt 2 is more advanced than the omex 600, however in the real world every thing depends on how well megasquirt is built, 99% of megasquirt problems come from iffy CPS wiring and bad DIY ecu builds (which as chip says you will find lots of 2nd hand).

Which ever you do make sure you get a build thread up

that looks like the road i may go down, will my green 803s work with this?
i was looking around 4-500 quid but my tuner wants me to go down omex 600 n said its gonna be around the £2,000 and more
is it easy gto map myself, considering ive neva done it in my life, will i pick it up easy enough and are there any guides?

cheers

Have a good read of this http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/tune.htm

You will want high impedance injectors, VXR injectors can be bought cheaply (sub £100).

Mapping is easy to pick up your self, mapping things safely takes a little practice (but is perfectly learn-able), its really an experience thing, you won't screw the last 10% out of your car that a good tuner with a dyno would, but with some learning you will have a good safe car thats nice to drive.

There are more and more tuners/individuals who are feeling happier about tuning megasquirt these days too, so depending on what other tuners are close to you that may also be an option.

Maybe your tuner would be okay with you picking up a 2nd hand omex which you could fit before giving him the car? Any good tuner would be able to map MS though tbh, they just don't like fixing the millions of fuck ups that badly built ones normally have...

Omex gets my vote!

You'd have to sell you 803s if you use Omex though as they're low impedance injectors where as the Omex uses high impedance injectors.

He can add a peak and hold box or get a bit pikey and add resistors.

But a set of high imp would be a better idea I agree.

There is that option but I'd sooner just buy some injectors rather than go through the effort of peak/hold drivers or resistors. Less hassle and work involved.

I believe they are 480cc/min, ask karlos_g, he ran them for a while.

After a quick google up i think they are 440cc...
Im on beiges atm, and intend to max them out before changing to the vxrs.
Ive seen various cars running 210-230bhp on the beiges (240cc/min) so i don't know whats what with injectors tbh!

don't think beige injectors will do 230bhp, maybe they're running them at a higher pressure? Is 3 bar is standard on them?
