Mine has always done this. Its only very dull. Can only be seen at night time with the lights off. Glows a little bit when using the windows (obviously). But as the battery has the correct charge and the alt works fine I don't worry about it.

Check out the blue wire (otherwise known as the excite wire) that connects to the starter motor - these break down over time and can cause the majority of starting/charging problems of the S2 and also cause the battery light to glow - make sure when you check that you check the wire inside the blue sheath is actually intact as the wire can break down over time within the sheath and although it looks good can still be damage inside.

Also youll find a connector on the blue wire near the alternator this tends to corrode inside over time so unplug it and clean the connection this cured mine

Yeah worth getting a new altenator aswell as where they are on the car they get all dirt and water in them and start to play up. With a new one and cleaned connections it should cure the problem.
Also check what charge your getting on the battery when its running!

Mine did this awhile ago now and ended up being a poor connection in the ignition block under the steering column the red wire i believe. Also i swear there was a thread on here somewhere with someone had the same fault and tells you how to cure it assuming ur altenator and battery are ok.
